My laptop is running Simcity 4 way choppier and slower than it should be. Something must be wrong, because my laptop runs a lot more complicated and high graphics games more smoothly. Is there something I can do to get this game running smoothly?

PC Info:

OS: Win 8 64-bit

Processor: Intel® Core i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz

Display: Intel® HD Graphics 4000

RAM: 8GB

Understand that this is a legacy game.  Playing it with current hardware and software is like taking a sledge hammer to a gnat.  You have to dumb down your machine.

I don't think there is any way to tell your GPU that this game doesn't understand it, so try this:

"C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:directx  -CPUCount:1 -f

Except make the necessary changes to reflect your machine if it is not the same as mine.  That's my target line up there for my 32-bit decor environment.  This is what the options do from left to right after the quoted complete path name of the program:

Turn off the stupid EA movie.

Set up my 1080p monitor (2 options)

Force directx rendering

Allow only one core to process this program

Run full screen.

There have been several problems with Windoze 8.  You might want to set compatibility to Windoze 7.

Let us know if this helps.

It's absolutely necessary on modern computers to tell the game to only use one core. Otherwise it will CTD every ten minutes (at least that's what happened to me).

Also, go into the graphic options in the game and put Shadows on Low. Having them on medium or high is a guaranteed way to make your game be really slow and laggy.
