Hello!

After trying various methods to solve this problem and no solution, I'd be thankfull if someone would help me!

I'm running the european version of SimCity 4, patched with the european patch (UPDATE_SKU2_TO_P1_B638), and with the (SC4Update4BAT) bringing my version up to 1.1.640.0.

My system specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bits

Intel Core 2 Duo, E8400 3.00Ghz.

6GB RAM.

Nvidea 9600 GT w/1GB

120gb SSD HD

Running the game on Windows XP SP 3 Compability Mode as Admin (Altough tried on other settings, nothing solved).

* I get this problem using NAM, other plugins, and Highway Light Towers, but to illustrate my problem, did a fresh patched install, with only the Highway Light Towers in my plugins folder.

- After using the mods on the region and save, when I go back to the region screen this glitch comes up:

- In the region, the lights dont work:

Anyone has a solution? Thanks!

EDIT: I have my SimCity 4 installed and my plugin folder on the same driv (D:) e, but not the same one as Windows (C:)

The first picture is an example of a bad save.  This is caused by switching away from the game during the save process.  It can lead to everything from a blank snapshot to a corrupt save (which leaves a hold in the regioni) to what you see.  The second picture is the consequence of the first.

This legacy game is very sensitive to losing focus at critical times like saves.  Patience is needed to wait for the save to complete.  ALT-TAB is not your friend in this case, nor is clicking on another window.

For the third instance, someone else must answer this.

A Nonny Moose, thanks for the answer, but even when not doing anything while saving the black glitches happen everytime I use some plugins, and never when I dont use them.

The highway towers there cause it to happen everytime, some NAM pieces also cause it, every time...

** And it seems to only happen in regions without water (landlocked).

Sounds like plugin incompatibilities.  Only the user can find these problems.  There are no guarantees on Plugins.  Your Plugins should be in the same directory as your regions.

I got the lights to work. But nothing I do changes the black glitches around the map on the region screen. I've tried uninstalling and installing the game again, patching it up to 1.640, and running with one single mod in the plugin folder (tried with different mods) but still get the glitch when I save and return to the region viewer.

Tried with just NAM but when I use certain puzzle pieces the black glitches appear again.

My plugins are in the same directory as my regions. If I play just vanilla SimCity 4 this error never happens.

    Any other ideas?

Did you, perhaps, render your map with a vertical resolution greater than 1999 px?  This is a know problem.

    I'm running the game with -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32

Although I've tried it with a fresh install and just one plugin in the plugins folder, it does get worse with mutiple ones, perhaps it its, in fact, incompatibilities between plugins. Will check on that troughtly.

    Thanks for helping.  :thumb:

This all sounds platform related.  Thousands of others are not having this problem.

    Probably was.

After messing around alot with the graphics options, and after a bit of uninstalling and installing the game trying to isolate the problem, I solved it running the game with 1 CPU core and rendering through software mode.

    Again, thanks for helping!
