New Player Questions

Firstly, I'm completely new to SC and the Mac app store version of SC4 is the first time I've played the game.

 

Secondly, thank you to all the posters on here as you've helped me make a lot of sense of the game so far.

 

And thirdly, to business...

 

Having played away the long hours I eventually found the frustrations of vanilla and thought about modding. I've used mods with other strategy games on Mac and know my way around porting files across using Wine and know my way around Mac OSX. It seems like NAM is essential therefore I installed NAM32 plus a couple of buildings from ST/Ex. Due to some of the issues I've read about on here I've installed only the Traffic Sim part of NAM32 only. That being the case:

 

1. What am I missing out on?

2. Is it all traffic related or are there tweaks to other parts of gameplay?

3. Do I still need the "Maxis files" mentioned on here for the App Store version?

4. If so will it affect the NAM installation already present if I were to install them?

5. How do I install regions? I can place the files in the correct place but when I start up cannot get to type in the prompt to locate the image file.

6. I've installed the jobs and radius expanders and they work, any reasons why I shouldn't have done?
