So I've downloaded a bunch of lots and bats and stuff....

While playing I notice buildings missing and replaced with brown boxes that look like packages. Now I'm not an idiot, it's odvious I must be mising some dependencies. Now I'd be able to figure it out if I hadn't downloaded and installed about 45 in a row. I know I know...my Bad. But my question is this...

Is there a way of figuring out which?

I odviously don't know which one is not working because...well it's not working. The only thing that could help me is using the ? tool and checking the info... I know it's RLS and probably by simgoober but I can't pinpoint which one because the name of the building is something like: J Dunn homes... and that's not the name of any of the lots or bat I installed.

    Any advice?

There is no automated way to check for missing dependencies, just check the readme's and get the depenencies from the links (for everything that you have installed). Brown boxes is the easy case, cause you do have visual evidence that some dependencies are missing. If the prop exemplars are missing as well, you will just have completely missing props.

Please also keep in mind that once a lot has been plopped or grown, it is NOT possible to make its props appear, if they are completely missing, you need to bulldoze the lots and plop/grow tham again. However, brown boxes (missing models, but not exemplars) can be displayed correctly if you install the missing prop-packs.

I would suggest that you install the mega-pack versions of props and textures, as you will need fewer downloads. Also, take the little time necessary to make a list (text or doc or excel file) of all dependencies you install, it's sometimes hard to tell if you have installed a prop-pack (this way it will be easier to check).

I just checked my folder of downloads (about 1000) and I guess I don't have it either.  PM Simgoober and ask him about it, if it's one of his lots.  Getting all the props and dependencies can be tricky and occasionally you may have it but because it's not in the right plug-in folder you have problems.  The easiest thing to do is to spend a day and download every prop and prop pack in the STEX.  Eliminate all the duplicates and install them in the Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Plugins folder.  If you download very many lots and bats, sooner or later you'll need all the props anyway.  It takes time but when your done 99.9% of all the prop and dependency problems will be eliminated.10.gif
