New patches probably require new cities.

I'm just tossing this out there for reference.  Each time a new patch drops there are a few posts saying "X fix doesn't work, I loaded my old city and..."

I hate to say it, but the way the patching has gone on this game you often see "This will not work for older cities" here and there. (For instance Update 7: "Note: Existing road layouts cannot be raised or lowered")  It generally a good idea to test everything in a fresh city, not with older cities - even if the patch notes don't come out and say the particular fix requires a new city.  A computer program is a complicated thing and different things depend on others in ways that don't make sense in real life.

I don't like it either, but that's the way it has been.  This game was designed assuming we wouldn't sit on a city for years and years of gametime.  Of course how you play is up to you, however they're patching as if we're starting afresh often.

I'm not saying EA should or shouldn't do anything any way they are or aren't doing so.  I'm just saying each patch to consider the possibility that fixes won't work on your already-existing cities.

Just an FYI, throwing in my 2 cents.  Saying it openly in a post rather than hunting down all the posts that people say this in.

The biggest instance of this I've seen was back with Update 5 or 6, whichever one made freight required, I forget which one it was. All of my pre-existing cities now had ludicrous freight demands like 12,000 unfulfilled freight. Even when I demolished all commercial to test it out, the demands stuck at 12,000. This obviously destroyed the economy of my whole region so I had to abandon it.

Lately though, I have not seen anything too "game-changing" so as to warrant a new region with Update 7 or 8. I did recently create a new one but that's because I wanted to play on one of the new regions they released.
