Dear Simtropolis,

I have recently installed Sim City 4 but I have problems running it.

When I open the application, it comes up with the small splash screen but it just disappears and doesn't load the came!

I've tried running on Windows XP Compatibility Mode, and changing my color to High (16 colors)

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

Intel Celeron D 220 @ 1.20Ghz

2GB Ram

Sis Mirage 3+ 248mb

Hope we can find a fix as I really want to play!!

First of telefang,

Welcome to Simtropolis!

Have you tried re-installing the game, updating your graphics card drivers (which is pretty ancient for me. :P), updating your DirectX, or restarting your computer?

OK, you seem to have a memory deficit.  2GB is not a great deal of room for the game + the windows kernel.  You might have to slim down on what windows is running for itself.  If you have the file indexer on, turn it off.  Then disconnect from the Internet and kill your virus scanner and firewall.

Leave the indexer off, it is a resource hog.  When you've finished playing, don't forget to re-enable everything else.

Also, the behaviour you've described will occur if you don't have accelerated sound enabled.  You need to have speakers or a headset plugged in and working.  And if you haven't got it, download DirectX 9.0c.

I'd suggest adding another 2GB stick to your computer, because that is the recommended amount of RAM for the game to function properly. It also enables you to use some extra features from mods such as the Network Addon Mod.
