    Thanks for that red

But my problem is I have already got the building modeled and completed. (first image) I have polygons in the right spot and size for the windows

but when i go to make a glass texture it goes as it big pane of glass. (second image)

I have no idea how to actually make the buildings from scratch like you just did

I import the models from sketchup that have been majorly completed already, then make changes to it in sketchup, put it in to 3ds max and do textures

All i really can do in 3ds max at the moment is textures and not very good night lights

So i was hoping that there is some other way to maybe show up the smaller frames instead of having a massive piece of glass like above

Not sure I really understand your problem. You have modelled separate panes of glass, but they appear as one when you apply the glass texture?

Suggest read the section called 'Tower Glass' on page 8 of my Q1 project, that describes randomised glass textures applied to faces. If you're applying a single glass texture to the entire object it will appear as one object.

Before you randomise the glass though, select all the edges and create the window frames like I described on the previous page.

Question - are you making these in sketchup yourself or downloading other people's models?

Yes as you can see in the picture i have all the panes of glass modeled (lots of little squares) I apply a glass texture and it joins them together as one massive pane of glass extenting all the way down the building. I also tried the same glass textures as the main small glass rectangle windows as well and did the same thing.

All i want it to do is keep the smaller frame squares and show them up instead of one big pane of glass.

I have tried the randomized tower glass tutorial that you made and was not able to figure it out.

I get the models of the 3ds warehouse through sketchup  ( ones that you see on Google earth 3d view)

Then i change them around a lot in sketchup.

Add a uvw map to any line created object and voila!!

You mite also add uvw's to all "flat planes" of glass individually.

Usually a time consuming process.. unless all your windows are the same sizes, then array tool would be used..
