my second big project I plan on getting going, a observation tower. all the modeling was done in Rhino3D, and I will be textureing it in gmax. i do not know how well the textures will go, so any advice, good textures that would go good on a observation tower would be appreciated.

here is a pic of the model so far, all is needed to be done is to texture it, and get the lighting.

Looks great so far.

Is this a tower where people stand on the top and look out over the city?  Or is the dome on top going to be covered with glass?  If they stand on top it looks like they would fall through.

there is glass were people can view the city, its just how the tower is designed that you cannot see the area, and yes the dome will be glass.

Wow, I thought I was the only one that used Rhino. Although I don't use it exclusively as often anymore. Have you found any problems with transfering models between it and GMax?

There are some things Rhino is majorly better at than GMax. It's definetly easier, and you gotta love the sweep rails command.

Also be careful when you turn things into mesh in Rhino, as the object may not texture propperly in previews or when BAT exports.

I do have trouble with textureing with the models when they are made in Rhino, do you know any solutions to this? because Rhino is great for modeling buildings and other stuff.

    Moonei,

The problems may be due to what file type you are exporting the model as. I haven't played around with other methods, but I usually export things as 3ds models from Rhino.

The main drawback to exporting as 3ds is that it forces you to apply a mesh to the object. From my experience with this, it didn't matter how many or how few polys it was, it still looked really jagged! My first ever BAT was made entirely in Rhino, and when just applying textures w/o UVW maps, they looked awful in BAT.

I mainly use Rhino for the more complex stuff, but make sure that the object will be untectured or the texture isn't something that needs to look repetetive and orderly. I think UVW Maps fix this proble, but I switched almost to completely using GMax now.

    I hope that helped!
