Could someone please tell me the exact folder you are using to render maps?

Apparently I have three different places where the game resides, two completely separate sets under My Documents, and one under C:\Program Files.  This is probably the problem, but I think I would have to reinstall Windows to fix the mess that is under My Documents, which I don't want to do.

Also, no matter which folder I am in when attemping to render, clicking on the config. file does nothing.  The game will only render when I click a .jpeg file, and then of course I can't get my goal:  one huge city with just a few smaller cities around the edge.

Guess I could also try making a jpeg out of a config file, and see what happens.

But again, which directory are you using to render your maps???

    Thankies

It seems you may still be confused about the difference between rendering and configs.

A config.bmp file is a file which tells SC4 how and where cities of specific sizes belong. When you put a config.bmp file in a region folder (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Region Name\), then when you load SC4 it should AUTOMATICALLY read that config.bmp and change the sizes of the city.

In other words, if you want a new region with a specific city-tile setup, first create a new folder titled whatever your region name is, and place that new folder in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\ .

Then, make your custom config.bmp file, and place it in your new region folder.

Then, when you load SC4, just load your new region and your configuration should be automatically set.

Rendering a region is only necessary if you want to import elevation data from a greyscale bmp or jpeg file.

    I hope this helps. 29.gif
