What to do when out of resources?

I have a city that is totally dependent on resources ( coal, oil, ore ).. my budget is -3000 but I'm making a lot of money from all the trade. What could I do when the city eventually runs out of resources and I am no longer making any profit? Will I be screwed?

Either import resources and produce processors or consumer electronics or start a new city.

"it depends".

If you are adding value to the resources, such as refining oil into petroleum or plastics, then you could just start buying the crude from the global market. Your profit margin will fall, but you won't have the expense of the oil wells (both in terms of land and simoleans).

If you are digging it up and selling, then you'll need to think of a get-out mechanism. Tours of the abandoned mines possibly?

Would it be a good idea to demolish the mines when all of it is extracted?

Of course, why keep mines that cannot actually work?

Yes, I was being flippant about tours.

They'll leave some pollution, which you can clear with trees from the Parks, Nature menu. No need to bother if you are just about to drop (say) a processor factory in the space.

Once you have the space back you can pop whatever you wish in there, and use that to make money as you see fit.

    HTH.

You should.be working towards a smelter or refinery if possible and capitalize on those resources. Or just skip those dirty buildings and head towards electronics while you can. Otherwise you will have to go to gambling/tourism. I figure future dlc will introduce new specs down the road.
