Train system completely bugged

So, I have an incredible train network happening, everything about my city is awesome. Except, the stupid trains.

Basically, the trains decide that they all want to just go to the nearest station to the region connection, pick up whatever passengers are there, and then head of out of the city.

Meanwhile, I have stations directly down the road with 20,000 passengers waiting for 1,000 hours not getting a single train.

What's even worse is that when there's a backlog of trains, some of them take the long route around the circle, skip all the other full stations and only stop at that first station.

Please tell me Maxis/EA are coming with a much needed traffic bug fix, for trains, streetcars, and vehicles? PLEASE!

I don't think trains are to be used for connections around your city. Just station per entrance.

Some of the biggest vehicles going through your cities are trains, which come from the region and bring in tourists and neighbors into your city, more so than could ever drive in from the regional highway. Your Sims may even ride the train between two stations on opposite sides of town, or use them to go to neighboring cities. Rail is by far my favorite mode of transit; it really makes the city feels like a model train set.

Much like in real life, people will only walk so far to take public transportation, so when placing public transportation stops, we show you that distance as a green bar directly on the sidewalks via a data layer. As a result, you can easily tell which neighborhoods are accessible, and which ones Sims will have to drive out of. Each stop is responsible for figuring out what kind of destination exists near it, be it a work place, a home, or even another stop that may lead Sims to their eventual destination. Your Sims may very well start their journey aboard a local shuttle bus, then transfer to a streetcar, and eventually to a train in order to work at the factory town next door.

You evaluate the performance of their systems by checking:

1. How many people are waiting to be picked up.

2. How long they have to wait on average.

3. How many passengers are currently riding in vehicles.

4. How many have been dropped off that day.

Each stop has similar information available, so it’s possible to really drill down on the data and make decisions on whether to add more vehicles or turn off infrequently used stops.

This is from the Official game Guide and is quoted from the lead game play scripter Guillaume Pierre, but like you I have found it difficult to impossible to get my Sims to even use the passenger train system to commute to another town let alone within my city, so yes I agree with you that the train system needs some sort of overhaul and in my opinion an attachable carpark to allow Sims to drive and park at the stations too. But this is maxis/EA and they aready have my money for the game so I will not be holding my breath for too long.

Additionally the guide says that trains will only go up a slope of 10 degrees or less.

Also can i add that there is no need to loop the heavy rail tiles the trains just ride in and automatically turn around and go back the way they came.

same, got a city with 4 train stops in it, no road crossings; trains comes in first station per 20-25 mins, second station once or twice a day, and never to the third station (i closed the 4th station).

i dunno what causes this, this city also have problems like, many of the recycle trucks i sent from my other cities doesn't show up (i sent total of 10, but just 1 of 'em shows up), same with garbage (2-3 out of 15).

i'm building this city since game's release, it's been 7 updates since. so i'm guessing the problem is, existed cities can't patch themselves? i mean bridge tool is working but, other than that, it's just like update 1.

any viable fix? i don't want to create a whole new region with every update.

Did you try not putting the 1st train station near the edge of the map? I would try to make them come into the city before they get to the first station. Then, from inside the city, they should calculate their next trips and spread out into the options there.
