Screen tearing

Hi friends,

After the complete train wreck that is the new SimCity I thought I'd give SC4 Deluxe a go.

Unfortunately, whenever I pan around in game I experience really really bad screen tearing:

What's interesting is that yesterday I had no problems at all.  At first I thought it was a problem with one of the mods I'd installed, but after removing them and starting a new city from scratch you can see that it's still tearing quite bad.

Is there a fix for this?  I've been searching for hours.  Tried reinstalling, tried updating drivers, nothing seems to work.

    What's your system's specs?

Plenty powerful to run a game from 2003.

Intel E8400, AMD HD6970, 8 gigs of memory, win7 x64, etc.  Note that it used to run just fine when I installed it yesterday.

Make sure rendering is set to hardware mode (in the graphics options).

Also, you'll want to right click on the game's icon, go to Properties, and type -CPUCount:1 at the end of the text in the "Target" box.  This will keep the game from crashing due to its incompatibility with multiple core processors.  (Or, as an alternative, use the and set the game to only use only one core)

I'll give it a shot.  It's not crashing, though.  It runs really smoothly except for the tearing.

In your hardware, open the GPU control panel.  Set all programmable controls (usually 3D stuff) to 'application selected' or equivalent words so that the loading program can select them.  SC4 turns them all off.

Also, this is a legacy game, and it needs a little TLC.  It may crash from fast scrolling or zooming.  There are only 6 zooms so rolling your mouse wheel isn't much use.  One click per zoom level will do, or use the numeric keys 1-6.

Did you find a fix to this? This is EXACTLY what I am experiencing. I have a late 2012 iMac, 27" with the 680MX graphics card and 24GB of RAM.

I have used the Nvidea control panel to turn everything to OFF of application selected, I have tried both Hardware and Software mode to no effect.

I refuse to buy SC2013 because of how awful it is, and my only other option is CitiesXL (which I hear is just as buggy/bad)

Also, after you get the tearing if you scroll out or in, or hold still for a moment, does it clear? Mine does. Still, I can't handle the tears for longer than a few minutes as it is with every scroll I perform.

I changed my resolution and it stopped tearing. MY screens native resolution is 2560x1440 - which is what I get the same tearing as OP from. I changed the Resolution to 1920x1080 and also 1920x1440 and the tearing stops.

Downside is game looks so stretched and fugly I won't play it unless at native. So SOL time? Or a way to fix this?

I think it doesn't work at any 2560* res. If you really want 1:1 pixels, play in a window.

If you have -f in your command list change it to -w for windowed mode.

Yeah this sucks. Returned to SC4 after many years and using the command line below I had no problems. Then I installed network mod and LRM v4 and the screen wont stop tearing. I moved the mods out of the folder but its still happening.

    I am running

    -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -CPUCount:1 -CPUPriority:high

Add -d:software.  This will switch you to software rendering.  Later, if you want, the converse is -d:directx.

Also, make sure that all 3D controls on your GPU are set to "application selected".  SC4 doesn't understand nor use the newer stuff.
