Dealing with Pollution

So my water pollution is getting out of hand.  I built a water pumping station with a filtration system but it doesn't seem to be helping.  

 

Two questions:

 

1) Is it better to build the pumping station w/ the filtration system on the polluted water area to filter it?

 

2) What are other ways of curving the pollution?

Educated sims produce less pollution, plus they also help drive you towards cleaner industry (which produces less pollution).  

 

Additionally, trees help soak up ground and air pollution, though they will die if the pollution gets too severe.  If you are looking to clean up the ground pollution somewhere so you can build on it, trees can help speed things up by absorbing some of the ground pollution.  However, you should be prepared for the pollution to kill the trees, necessitating replanting trees.  Repeat this cycle till the ground pollution is cleaned up.

Plant grees and parks on ground pollution itll clean it up faster.

Do you guys know this for a fact or are you just repeating what you heard on this forum?

I tested this out by planting a bunch of trees and a park near a small empty polluted part of my city. If it does work, it does it extremely slow.
