I came across this animation of mass transit 'trips' in the Washington, DC region today and it was interesting to watch.

The larger white lines are long-distance commuter trains and Amtrak trains, while the smaller colored lines are Metro trains.  Buses are dots.  It's really amazing how many buses are on the road at once!

Does anyone know of animations like this for other larger cities or cities with more extensive transit systems?

It of course decreases to basically nothing late at night. Compare to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M0soXr2cHA, where stuff is still happening even at 3-4 in the morning.

This guy's YouTube channel has these for lots of cities around the world, by the way.

Excellent!  I use the DC transit system for years.   I can recognize the subway lines and commuter trains.  Fun stuff.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis
