you can't make it go underground into the subway in UDI mode, it'll kick you out. It works fine otherwise in game though.

There are no underground UDI missions.

There is a GLR<->subway transition on the STEX, it converts the traffic successfully, and you consider your GLR an extension of your subways to the suburbs.

UDI is yoU Drive It. It's only available on SC4 with the Rush Hour expansion. basically, you get to drive around your city.

You need to transform the glr to elevated rail or subway to connect to the neightbors.
