Adjoining Cities: Sharing Industry

I would like to know how the following would work:

City A is a large Residential and Commercial city.

City B is a medium Industrial city.

City A is joined by rail and road to City B.

If I make City C Residential and also join it to City B will it share the Industry or will the city with the largest demand take most of the Industry? Is the AI intelligent enough to work this out?

Thanks in advance.

So, do you mean something like this :

I think something that you try to do is possible, but also don't forget to check everything to make sure the condition is right.

Yes, jason leo, that's exactly what I meant - glad you could do the graphic for me :)

So will cities A and C share the Industry in B or will the larger city get most of it? Or will one take it all?

I think what will happened is some peoples from both cities will work there, but it's also based on what type of R and I there. My only question right now is what type of I that dominate city B (I-D, I-M, or I-HT) ?

I think it depends on how much industry jobs are available in B and how much demand there is in A and C. It also depends on which Residential city you develop first: it will take the jobs available from B first.

Regarding the type of Industry in city B I think it really depends on your population (in A and C) wealth, education, etc...

It will definitely work. Do make sure that you have enough industry in B to accommodate the needs of A and C. A good rule of thumb here would be:

    (A( r )+C( r ))/2 = A( c )+B(c+i)+C( c ) where

r is the number of residents

c is the number of commercial jobs

i is the number of industrial jobs

This is a rule of thumb and never exact.

This is an opportunity also here for city A to sell water to B and on to C. You will need a big water plant.

Similarly, B can supply power to both A and C as well as pick up their garbage.

If B is landlocked, you'll need several waste to energy plants as well big power plants.

B will be badly polluted, so you won't be able to get any high tech industrial. Put them in C when you need to. Remember high tech needs the same conditions as Co$$$
