So I made a new region and created a residential city with some commercial zones too. cool place to live :-P

And next to the city I created a industrial city with no residential zones... I connected those 2 cities. I see the factories coming but there are so many unemployed sims in the residential city!! They can work there right?? I dont really get it..

I also build an farm city and connected it but there are still many unemployed sims :(

Dont know what im doing wrong now.

There are several kind of sims, commercials, and indutries.

What type of sims that dominate your city ?

R$ or R$$ (if R$$$ dominate the city, then it will become a big trouble)

What type of commercials that usually grow around your city ?

CS-$ or C-S$$ (I'm sure if a new city doesn't have a lot of CS-$$$, CO-$$, and CO-$$$)

And what type of industries that grow around your city ? (outside I-A/farms)

I-D or I-M (I'm sure if I-HT won't grow around new cities)

And one more question, how about the facilities around your city ?

Factory workers, especially in ID tend to be R$. You need good transit into the industrial city for them because many R$ can't afford cars. The same applies to agricultural workers. IAg workers should actually have their residences right on the farm lands.

Why is R$$$ considered a big trouble when dominating city, mr.Jason? You got something againts R$$$??

No, just kidding...lol...ignore that...i'm in the high mood of joshing, that's all... :D

Well,..ahemm..If i can put it in the simplest words, it goes like this....Sims or your Resident will always choose the nearest workplace. No matter how many mass transits or road connections you provide. They will often choose the shortest or the fastest way to get to the workplace.

Too simple?? well, i'm trying to give you explanation that wont make you go "yawn"

but if you insist,....which i'm not sure,....check this link if you don't mind>>>https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=12096.120

Pay attention to the Reply #128.

Hope it'll broaden your knowledge about Sims and Commuting time,..

Note: before someone complain about my simple explanation above, that is based on Mr.Smileymk's Realistic Cities For Dummies thread on SC4Devotion (the link i posted above). All blame should go to him, if you found it unreasonable....lol...josh again.. :D

Cheers...

I already had lots a busstops and few subway stations.. i created more subway stations and i saw that some unemployed sims used the subway for work but other sims became unemployed.. uwlg my city becomes a real mess.. :( I ended up hopeless and created a few factories in the corner of my city and made a railway, subway and bus connections.. still unemployed!! :'(

And there is even room to build factories.. i dont understand my sims.

Maybe I need a real good city tutorial.. I think I always do something wrong when I start my city because my sims always complain about traffic, school, clinics, fundings and whatever.. They are never satisfied. And my city always end up being a MESS!!

Remember, different type of sims accept different kind of job.

Have you consider your sims' education and wealth level ?

These two things are very important, because sims with different wealth level and education level work in different places.

And do you have NAM ? It is the must-have mod that fix the sims' pathfinding way from taking the shortest commute become taking the fastest commute.

Education is high and the unemployed sims are mostly low wealth.. but there is room to build factories. And I dont have NAM because I dont get it how to install it on a mac.

The mac version is here : http://sc4devotion.c....php?lotGET=852 (must login/register first)

R$ sims usually work in CS$ buildings, I-A buildings, and I-D buildings. However, because of the education level which is high, then they usually prefer more to work in CS$$, CO$$, CS$$$, CO$$$, I-M and I-HT than those kind of industries and commercials. One more question, what kind of sims that mostly inhabit your city ?

Mostly low wealth, ugly grey buildings are taking over my city. They are R$ right?? But if they want to work CS$ buildings, why dont they build it? There are empty zones..

Have you check the link i posted before?? That is one important tutorial for developing city.

I dont have NAM because I dont get it how to install it on a mac.

I suggest you to install the NAM, that will help you a lot concerning your traffic and your commuters. I'm sorry i cannot explain further about this mod for i'm not from the NAM team myself. That explanation belongs respectively to the member of the NAM team. You can ask them about it on their thread located here (registration required if you wanna post comment or questions)

But i can provide you to the correct download link, as you couldn't find it here on STEX for some technical issues:

    Network Addon Mod MacOs Version

You'll find a readme file when you finished downloading. That should guide you through installation.

Grey buildings aren't always R$, I suggest you to use the quest tool and click those buildings so you can get more information about them.

Well, how about your CS$ demand ? If the demand is low, then no one want to make any, also how about your city's tax setting ? Tax is one of the factor of the demand another desirability and availability of workers.

I checked it with the question mark and they are mostly R$ and factories are mostly I-D $$.. my taxes are default 9%

R$ sims do usually work in I-D, the tax for both of them should be at 9%, the distance between them is not very far. Have you install the NAM and retry the game after installing the mod ? And how many R$ living in your city and how many I-D, I-A, and CS$ workers around your city? If the number of the workers is less than a half of the whole population, then it may become your problem.

That's it ! 7K I-D + 6K CS$ is still below 44K R$, right ? I think you must add more factories around your city, 44k/2 is not equal to 7K+6K. You must be able to add another 11K workers (I-D, I-A, and CS$) to your city.

About the NAM installation, have you read the readme ? All information and instructions to install the file should be available in the readme.

Okay ill try to add more factories! But another question.. sorry if I'm asking to much :P !! My industrial town is not making profit.. it has only factories. So when I go to the industrial town, im losing lots of money..

And about NAM.. i've read the read me over and over again but its so confusing. Isn't there an auto installer for mac??

EDIT: I got NAM working!! yay

Industrial town supposedly only needs some fire stations to protect them from fire, and also water and power, nothing else. To minimizing the expenses and add some profit, I suggest you to legalizing gambling (not a very good option, but adding $100 is not a very bad decision, right ?), and minimizing the maintenance cost of the power plant until it just a bit above the used capacity. Adding industries will also increasing some income, and if your city is really need money, I only can suggest you to download the and use the moolah cheat. (Not recommended, but this is the best option)

While about the NAM, as I know, the auto-installer is for the WIndows Version, not the Mac. NAM Team already include the instruction to install the mod for Mac users, read this part :

    >>>My industrial town is not making profit.. it has only factories. So when I go to the industrial town, im losing lots of money..

    >>>Isn't there an auto installer for mac??

    >>>Check your taxation to control your profit in your industrial town. Roads, mass transits, power plant and water pump will all absorb your cash each months for treatment reason. Make sure you check their funding. You can always control the funding to suit the exact need of your town. i mean, why give them thousands simeleon when they only ask 100...?? I hope you know what i mean.

Edit: Please...not the DLL Cheat again, mr.Jason...that is not the best option here...you can still save your town by controlling the funding.

    >>>For Mac version, you must install it manually. Please read the readme, that is your only guide.
