Reconcile edges problem

Hello everyone,

I'm quite new to Sim city 4 (none rush hour version).

I seem to get quite far with my city and then it asks me to 'reconcile edges' if I do I will loose my whole city, but if I don't my city can't grow.

I reconcile the edges at the beginning of my city but it makes no odds.

What should I do?

Thank you in advanced.

Scryan.

Reconciling edges only matches your city's terrain (on the edges, that is) to match that of surrounding cities. Only things you've put too close to the border will be affected. If your buildings are at the centre of the map, they should be all right. In the beginning the city's terrain already matches neighbouring cities so reconciling edges makes no difference; it's only used after terraforming, especially if it involves terrain near the borders, or you decide to flatten the whole map.

Thank you for your response but when the box comes up it shows the areas that will be affected and the whole map goes red, I think it is because it is such a small city.

Either it's a bug or it's your map.

Apart from being small, is your map mountainous? There are some cases where one city's too hilly and its neighbour too flat, causing the entire city to be affected by reconcilation.

Since you are running SC4 original without rush hour, the question I have is did you get the patch that was published for that version? If you are playing without the published patch, then this may indeed be a bug that has been fixed.

Hey, just try it out and you will see what is going to be destroyed, once done all you have to do is exit the city without saving and everything will be back as it was before. ;)

But wouldn't that mean the edges would still not match neighbouring cities, as if you never reconciled the edges?

If you don't save, it will not match your city's landscape. I told you just to try it out and don't save the city, so this way, you will find out what will be destroyed in the city tile that you are reconcilerating. Because if the damage is only minor, I recommend simply to reconcilerate and then not bother with the problem anymore.

Another thing I recommend, before starting a new city, it is always a good idea to reconciliate before you start building on it. ;)

    Good luck

Have you tried going to the neighbour cities and reconcile those edges?
