after about 2/3 years i've decide to install Sim City in my "new" computer, i have a windows XP Professional, service pack3, dual core 3.00GB, and video card is ATI Radeon HD 5600 series. When i launch the programm it start, but after anout 1 minut it stop, not crash to windows, simply it stop and the only thing i can do is close it using task manager. In my old pc never happened me this problem, it was a dual core too, so i know that i've to select only 1, i think that the problem is the card, anyone cam help me, or i have to buy another card? :-(

For openers, go into your Catalyst Control Centre and make sure that all the 3D options are set to allow the loading program to select it if It wants it, otherwise not. SC4 doesn't like newer controls.

If you haven't, you can add -cpucount:1 to your command line options to save monkeying with the task manager after launch. If you've never done this, it goes after the last quote mark and needs one space before the hyphen.

With XP Sp3 and set to single processor you shouldn't be having frequent hangs nor CTDs. Did you download DirectX 9.0c? If not, do so. It quite happily co-exists with the other versions.

How does your program run with no plugins? To do this easily, simply rename your plugins folder to Plugins.hold. The game will create a new empty one.

Many thanks, i've check the Catalyst Control Centre, Than i've download Directx but nothing has changed. Then i've understand nothing about If you haven't, you can add -cpucount:1 to your command line options to save monkeying with the task manager after launch. If you've never done this, it goes after the last quote mark and needs one space before the hyphen. Can you explain easily where i've to add -cpucount:1?

    Again many thanks

Amico, it is easy if you are a computer type. However, it is maybe not so simple for people who have little or no computer training. So here goes, and I hope I get this right. I don't run Windows, but I used to, so I think I remember how this goes.

On your desktop right click on the SimCity4 icon.

    Select Properties

In the properties panel you should see a line labelled target. This is the command line. Left click at the front of it.

Press the end key (moves past the final quote mark on this line).

    Press the space bar once.

    Type in:

    -CPUcount:1

Click on the button to update the shortcut. I forget what the label of that control is, sorry. Besides, if I am sensing your location correctly, you are in Italia, and I really have no idea what the label would be.

This will update your command line to include this option, and things should be better.

If not, post again and we'll try to diagnose your problem again.
