New Region Development

I am reasonably new to the game (played around with it but never got serious) and now would like to start building a city/region from scratch but starting with a major (not necessarily large but something with "everything") train freight area and building from there to create a city over a number of neighbouring areas.

I've downloaded quite a few lots and a humungous load of dependencies but find that when I try to put them together very little works. Most of them don't connect to streets and roads and in one case, less than half the items included in the download appear anywhere in the menu.

For some strange reason, it also appears that a few Lot Developers have a weird idea of where their developments should appear in the game menu system (which is abysmal to say the least before we start) BUT, honestly, WHY would anyone put a train station in the PARKS menu?

I've spend the past 2 weeks trying to sort out a decent Freight area without success. Has anyone achieved what I would like to? If so is it possible for you to send me pictures and/or information on how you managed to achieve it?

there are a few freight yards in the stex, put 'trains' into the search and you'll see them, the container yards, oil filling station and there's a five piece freight yard as well (this is the center piece of my industrial areas)

When i built my mega cities i based the rail network around the freight area, i bought all the lines from other tiles and concentrated them in one area and set up the freight yards in between the lines. it takes some practice and planning to set them up and get them working but it will pay off, try sketching on paper what you want to do and then build it when you have decided on a layout.

Last year i got this game from amazon: 'build your own virtual model railway', many people build train layouts but it costs a fortune, this is a game that does the same but only cost me £7.00, try it, it will give you some experience and it looks great.

Then, I want them to start throwing rocks." -- William Adama, Battlestar Galactica

Don't get too much in love with freight. It dies at the city border or a seaport. One the things missing in the game is a complete freight network, but that's not the name of the game.

dependencies are the ones that are needed for the actuall lots, like a house have tree dependencie, and if you dont have that dependencie than trees eather will not show up or will be as boxes on the actuall lot.
