I can't get Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition to launch

I have just installed Sim City 4 deluxe edition and when it goes to launch it doesn't respond.

When I insert disc 1 it goes to the start window and when I press play it just says 'Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart the application', so I insert disc 2 and it and restart the application but it then doesn't launch at all ... -_-

Is it disc 2 that normally runs the game or disc 1? If it helps my laptop is a Sony Vaio and it has just come back from a repair shop and has had everything taken off of it so it has very few programs left on it. I have tried cleaning the CD and going to start, all programs, maxis, Sim city 4 and then Sim city 4 again like it says in the manual but nothing worked. Please help me!!! :)

You may have a zombie process hanging around. Try a system reboot.

Also, did you apply the EP1 patch?

SC4 was not designed to be run on laptops even though many do run the game successfully. You did not mention the specs of your system. Sounds like you may not have enough memory or dedicated video memory to run the game. Since you have had the system repaired and have removed most of your software I am assuming it is an older machine. (?)

Check the minimum requirements of the game and compare them to the specs of your system.

Good luck, I know it can be frustrating.

If you don't even get the Bridge splash screen, check to make sure you have both accelerated graphics and sound, and that your graphics has at least 256MB memory. This program won't start if you don't meet the minimums.

I have just un-installed Sim City 4 Deluxe from my laptop (not worth the hassle :P) and instead I found Sim City 4 (I don't know how I have got two of the same game!). I thought it might be worth seeing if normal Sim City might work so I installed it and it works really well!! It isn't deluxe but it doesn't matter too much. Thanks for your help!! :D

Livvy I don't know about the "Deluxe" edition, I bought the original SC4 in 2004 and then added the "Rush Hour" when it came out, but I assume they are about the same in how they run. Be sure and install the patch and if you have "Rush Hour" you might try installing it on top of your present game and see if that works.

I suspect your system in some way does not meet minimum requirements, but am glad you at least got something to work.

Yes, for the original game without Rush Hour, you need the published patch.
