From what I remember, the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party is/was about fiscal responsibility (something many of us have to practice on a daily basis in RL). So being sensible is what defines a 'nutjob' or 'crazies' these days? Wow.

That's not really it. Fiscal responsibility is great. The Tea Party's problem is that, at least in terms of public perception, they drifted away from that and into a huge neo-conservative movement that seems to care more about social issues than about financial issues. I supported the Tea Party when they talked about lowering taxes. When they started talking about banning abortion, banning gay marriage, and all that, they lost me.

The defining jump the shark moment for me was when a woman who was using birth control in a monogamous relationship got labeled a "slut". Yeesh!

Well, the time for recriminations over the election is really over now. How about we shift this debate to the American Politics thread, if anyone can find it?

If I were given the choice, the TEA party would be given its walking papers by the GOP on the grounds that their far right noises cost them the Presidency. Let them be their own party. They have members or adherents in both houses, and it would get the two party system out of the woods. The GOP can then work on renewal and repair.

The Democratic Party really needs to take a very good look at itself as well. Some of their socialists leanings are probably too far left for a centre-left outfit.

the Tea Party got the same treatment all the other small parties do, blasted from all sides by the big boys till it looked like thay were a bunch of nuts.

Call me crazy--I won't deny it--but I agree that this election is good in some ways (the voter initiatives and referendums AKA direct democracy that I voted for passed) but does indeed spell doom and gloom for the nation as a whole. People have been voting along party lines or based on prejudice. There are incompetent and corrupt people that got voted into office because they ran on the Democrat ticket in a Blue State or on the Republican ticket in a Red State. I registered to vote as an Independent and I voted for a mix of progressive and conservative choices because I did some research and picked what and who I knew would be better. Romney in this case would change up the politics enough to possibly fix the economy.
