On the one hand, they were warned and did it again anyway. On the other hand, while I can't say I've driven the road in question, their speed does not jump out at me as outrageous enough to warrant such a penalty. 125 in an 80 metric translates to 78 in a 50 US... not even enough over to qualify as reckless driving in most states. But I do get the impression that Canada tends to be stricter about these things.

At any rate, those cars are certainly capable of going a lot faster than they were. 130 km/h is nothing for a sports car. My rinky-dink no-frills sedan can make it to 175. (that's 80 and 110 mph, respectively)

probably that's a slower zone on that one lane highway, 80kph is only 50mph any faster you probably cant stop for that Moose in the road around the next corner

I guess Texas has significantly stiffer traffic laws than most of the rest of the country then. At 30 over, there is a good chance you'd be arrested on reckless driving charges and facing jail time.

Yes, well, Texas also has significantly higher speed limits than the rest of the country. 30 over 80 is a lot different than 30 over 65. I don't think any other state will give you jail time for reckless driving unless you either did something exceptionally stupid (not just driving really fast) or are a repeat offender.

I also don't think any other state will arrest you for it - it's a court summons.

And the driver in question here was only going 28 over, so...

it may not be true but i have heard if your going over 100mph in texas your taken to jail automatically as it considered reckless driving

Most of the speed limits in Texas aren't over 65. Quite a few aren't over 60. Some are even 55 for new highway installations.

If the state's traffic laws are "suggested limits" as opposed to "absolute limits," then the difference between 28 and 30 is like arguing that there's a difference between 0.99999... and 1. Under a "suggested limits" traffic code, the officer's opinion is the law, and just because you weren't officially breaking whatever law isn't likely to stop you from getting the ticket (or arrested).

The Sea-to-Sky highway goes from Vancouver to Whistler in the Rockies. Guess what this road does to make that happen? Lots of curves, lots of drop offs. We aren't kidding about the speed limits. They were lucky not to be charged with Dangerous Driving.

Terrain is a major factor. Speeding around curves is different than speeding through the Utah salt flats where you can literally see everything for miles around.
