Look at the dependencies for each file (usually in the readme) and download those.

Many downloaded buildings have dependencies. Dependencies are files, usually props or textures, that are required for the proper functioning of a lot or BAT. In the STEX description of the buildings you downloaded, any required dependencies should be listed. (They should also be listed in the readme.) If you have not downloaded any of those dependencies, make sure to do so. It would help to provide the specific buildings that are showing as brown boxes, so we can help you with the dependencies. For more information on dependencies, check out this article.

Sometimes the links for dependencies are broken, due to site updates, etc., so it can be difficult to find the dependencies you are looking for. In this case, search the exact name of the dependency/dependencies you are missing using Google, and most of the time you will be able to find what you need.

Seriously...just take the excellent advice given by Gurning_Chimp and MamaLuigi and you will have those homeless folks in warm homes and office towers in no time.

if i was any good at batting i would make some homeless shelters b/c the sad reality that everybody has a house or an apartment in SC4 tends to stretch the very bonds of credulity. don't know how well they would be received but i would have to add some kind of park/adverse mayor rating effect but that's beyond my expertise. anyone know of any good lots that could be used a homeless shelter in SC4 ?

When you install the plugins be sure you include all the relevant files. Any and all of

.sc4lot

.sc4desc

.sc4model

.dat

Should go to your plugins folder unless the installation instructions tell you otherwise. Sounds like you are missing the .sc4model files.
