Starting a new city and resource demands

So I bought Cities XL 2012 recently.

I have started a new city (I have the expert mode disabled).

In the resource panel I see that my Heavy Industry's consumption is less than production, thus some of the Heavy industry companies go out of business.

The problem is, early on with expert mode disabled there's not enough diversity for jobs for unskilled workers. You simply have to make Heavy Industry to create jobs for a growing population.

I've created some farms (1 of each type) but they require so few workers that it doesn't solve the problem either.

Any insights? Or do I have to enable expert mode? (Incidentally, I did try this but got so trigger happy with all the shiny stuff that my city went down the drain)

I used to have CXL 2011 (lost the email) and maybe you should try to create some offices and manufacturing, since the heavy industry gives products to one of those, I forgot though, and just create all the types of jobs there are and see what happens, including farms, you will NEED farms or citizens will complain. Don't forget once you have farms and manufacturing make some stores, note that I am not 100% accurate since I haven't played in a year. One of my cities, Cliff City, pop. 3.6 million, had more offices and manufacturing, with heavy industry here and there, but no matter what you will always run into problems related with resources, and expert mode, leave it off and see if that helps along with the advice I gave you, if not, try going to a cities xl forum, or to another section of this forum

The point is to have as few unskilled workers as possible and only put them near the polluting industry. You can get much higher profit with a primarily office based city.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

All you do is trade your Heavy Industry that's left over with Omnicorp, to balance out consumption and production. I build in expert mode, because my Cities are primarily Offices, Manufacturing, and High Tech, and I import everything else.

All you do is export the industrial products to Omnicorp until you have somewhere else to consume them.
