Says insert play disk when i start the game.

Just bought this game today and got the Sim City box deluxe/rush hour from Wal-Mart. I've installed the game and have updated it to version 1.1.640, think it was the EP1 update and BK3(?) maybe. Anyway when i click the .exe file to start the game with disc 2 in the cd drive, it comes up with please insert the play disc and restart the game. It is almost like it's not recognizing the securtiy or something on the disc but it is a brand new game????????????????????????? Is there a fix for this?

My Simcity 4 disk is badly scratched and very old and it still runs, but sometimes that happens to me. What I would do is restart your computer and try again. If it doesn't work, try again, and again, and again, until it works. And/or look in the manual for info, or look in the manual for Maxis contacting information. They may be able to help you. I'm not an expert, but there are a lot more savvy guys on this site, and I'm sure someone will have a better answer. There are guys that reply quickly to these kinds of things, so don't worry.

there is a whole list of errors that could be mentioned, first of all is your disk driver a CD/DVD combo?

secondly dose your operating system recognize the game disk(asumming you are running windows) look in my computer and commonly it is the D: driver that possess the prymary cd driver. knowing windows, when you enter the disk it display Your disk? aka D:\SC4DELUXE2 (example).

do you get a splash? by default (EP1 or Deluxe), when you dubble click on the icon or main .exe it should display a image about 800x600 image of a bridge and a few cars, this is called a splash screen.

did you install the game to a sub folder?(ie NOT Default location of C:\Program files\Maxis\Sim City 4)

if no did you install it in a External HDD?

could it be just a operator error? somthing your not doing quite right

If you truly cannot get the game to start, return the whole package to WAL-MART for a replacement. There have been some defective copies. When you installed the game, unpatched, did it start?
