Crazy No Job Zots

I recently downloaded a region from the STEX, and I've had the same problem every time. I'll build to about 3,000 residents, then place a water tower. I give a small section of the town water, mid-wealth condos and some mansions pop up. There is plenty of industry and commerce at the right wealth levels, and everything goes fine for a bit. Then, every high wealth home begins to get a no job zot. However, high wealth residential demand is high. I builldoze all of those lots, raise their taxes to %12, and let more mid-wealth and a couple high-wealth move in. Then no job zots appear by the dozen throughout the city. Then they disappear, coming up somewhere else again. I checked my jobs/pop graph, And there were enough jobs for every citizen to have one (which is not even necessary). Curious, I did a query, and all the houses with the zots had a Long commute time. Every other house said short. I have excellent transportation systems, (bus, elevated rail, ferry, all of which are being used), no congestion whatsoever, and NAM is downloaded. No other cities are connected. I've never had this problem before, but I've done everything the same. I had recently downloaded a large amount of plugins. I thought one might have a bug, but this problem started before I downloaded them. I noticed that this only happened on the map from the STEX, too. Any ideas?

Also, I checked the graph, and the demand for all commerce and industry is either negative or at zero, despite the supposed lack of jobs.

Sounds like pathing trouble. Get the extra cheats .dll (if you don't have it) and when this happens use the drawpaths command to see where the pathfinder thinks the routes are. This trace is discontinued by hidepaths. You may have set yourself up in such a way that the high-wealth folks can't get a reasonable path to their job.

What is the URL of the map? Does this happen if you open a city in a sandbox region?

I don't have that, I think I'll try it. I'm not having this problem on any map but this one.

I've had no job zots before, but his format (of my city layout) never fails me. The amount of zots is absolutely ridiculous. As a matter of fact, I built a city to 200,000 residents and filled it with stage 8 buildings; not one no job zot. The only mass transit I used there is buses. It was, however, on a different map. The city is also set up in a grid, like all my others.

Rendering that map on another desktop right now ...

It just finished. Took about 15 minutes or so. Very nice. I grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario and that's a pretty good map of the area. Too bad we can't have elevated water tables. That 200 ft. drop at the falls would be nice to have.

Now, if you will tell me which particular tile you are having this problem with, I will try to reproduce the events and see if I get the same abandonment problems.

Later: After looking at this map in detail, I put a rather acerbic comment on the STEX. This is not a map of Buffalo, NY, but most of the eastern and western Niagara Peninsula. IMHO, not worth having.

I can paste a picture of it in a second, but I deleted the cities each time because they all seemed beyond repair. I'll try to recreate the layout for you.

I forgot to mention it earlier, but I had 3 CTD's when the problem was occuring.

Oh, better yet. Open your Exception Reports folder and then open the most recent .txt file in notepad.

Copy the first 20 lines only into your post. This will reveal a lot.

Running an unfixed copy of Deluxe on a very small machine (1 GB memory) in XP. You need the updates from http://sc4devotion.c...orums/index.php. You may need to register. It is free.

Open the page and scroll down to the suggestions panel on the left.

There is an EA support button. Click it. Accept the agreement, then on the next page choose the EP1 update to 1,1,638, download and save it on your desktop.

Open the BAT page, and scroll down past the description to the "Getting more ...". Pick up this patch and save it on your desktop as well. You do not need the BAT, only this patch.

    Close the Internet.

    Apply the EP1 patch then

    Apply the BAT patch.

Now, open windows explorer and navigate to Program Files .... SimCity 4.exe. Hover your mouse over the file and right click. Open the version tab. The build version should now be 1,1,640 showing that you are completely up to date.

A lot of them. Once you are up to the final level (1,1,640), you should be able to run with some command line tweaks to solve any further problems. If you are running OK, then you don't need anything else, but it depends on your machine.
