Ok so I was playing around with my new city's train system that goes from the city, Through the forest, and into the Suburbs! anyway... I noticed a while ago that when driving trains sometimes the train coaches/cars will disappear, but still be there. Sometimes they are see through other time completely gone. Then I noticed if you derail the train The invisible cars will still sit there after the rest of the train despawns, and sometimes stay there after saving and quitting the game, then reentering. I have some photographic prof! oh yeah, you can also hit the train car with A car, I mean you can push it around and line it back up with the tracks, but if another train comes then it will get pushed back off.

As you see I checked back a few times and each time it was still there. idk what this is but its funny!

Truly odd. I've had the odd rail car hang around at a neighbour connection, but it usually goes away if you save and restart the city. You say you were running UDI when this car derailed?

Well, if I may be facetious, that's UDI for you. Code in haste, fail to complete debugging before release, and here we are 10 years later.

The quality assurance on this program is definitely not strained. It was rushed out the door by the marketing mavens upon the place beneath, when it was immediately necessary to issue a hot fix (EP1) just to it would run at all. The number of undocumented features (a.k.a. bugs) is truly staggering, but the game is playable anyway. Remember it is 10 years old, so be nice.

Hind sight, 10 years of it, always makes for better work. The problems at the time were mostly caused by pressure to meet some announced deadline when it was really infeasible. UDI was stuck on near the end of the development cycle kind of out of the blue. The guys coped with this as best they could, but they really needed another six months.

If you have a project that is supposed to take 10 man years, throwing 10 chief programmers at it will extend the project to 20 man years due to all the overheads needed for a chief programmer team. One team would probably make it.

Edit later: Hey, I got a little lost locomotive today on one of my neighbour connections. You need to hold the keyboard just so, grab the mouse and redraw the tracks under it to exorcise this ghost.

Yeah I noticed the connection one sometimes, I just did the udriveit developer toll and clicked the train, drove it a little then left udriveit.

It's a common issue and I've had it across all my PCs. It doesn't seem to degenerate the train correctly and remove them from the preservation table (Automata on screen is preserved on save).

As Nonny Moose said, it's most likely a case that the game doesn't catch properly, QA may not have picked up and certainly wasn't fixed.

Deleting the Subfile these locations are stored in would probably fix the problem, but we don't know which file that is.

Lets just go around deleting random files :P no, but thanks for all the info guys, its funny how we stick together for the littlest of problems!

My computer shows trains as little green cart things. I used UDI to check it out, and when I crashed into it, the green kart thing spun round and stayed there, and weirdly didn't disappear. Anyone here know what the green kart thing is, and please post it on the forum.

The little green carts are track-checking hand-cars. They traverse your rails to see that they are continuous, and looking for other maintenance problems. Trains, when you have your graphics set high enough to see them, are trains.

UDI is full of bugs. Congratulations on uncovering yet another.

BTW, I was building the last rural part of the Megapolis Freeway when I found a construction vehicle just sitting there. Turns out there are ghost cars as well.

(Image had a file size larger than limit; couldn't be bothered to make personal URL.)
