I've just downloaded a map that I really like but it's just too big. Is there anyway of reducing it's size by 50%?

    G'Day Han Solo,

Yes you can reduce it by exporting it out of terraformer as a 16bit .png. Open it an image editor that handles 16bit .pngs, ie photoshop. Reduce it to a size that suits you, remembering size = n km x 64 +1. Make a config.bmp to suit. Open it in Terraformer and reset the height to suit with the compressor. Export it as a .SC4M.

    Jobs done.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply, drunkapple. I understand everything except what I've highlighted in green. Could you please explain what it means?

Sure, for example if your map is 20 tiles per side and the highest elevation is say 1000m and you want it half sized then this is equal to a map about 15 tiles per side. 400 tiles versus 225 tiles, very close.

If you cut a piece out of the original map 3841px x 3841px you have your 15 tile per side half size map and do not need to use the compressor, but if you resize your original map from the 5121px to 3841px size. Then you will still have a half sized map but the elevation will still be at 1000m. This is the compressor's forté and you will require the terraformer NHP V1.1 from the Lex.

So your new map to remain scaled to the original in elevation requires that it be scaled down to 3/4 x1000=750. Even though the map is half the size you have only scaled the length and breadth by 3/4.

Open the map in terraformer, under Global Tools is a heading: Compressor, click it and in the pop up dialogue you will see min height; unchanged value; and max height. If your map has water then the min height value can be left as is. The unchanged value can be changed to 250 and the max height can be changed to 750. Now click ok. Terraformer will re-size the elevation from sea-level to the new max elevation leaving the coastlines untouched.

If the map is dry then the min height should also be re-sized, ie 3/4 of: then in the dialogue enter the new min height, leave unchanged value at 0 and enter 750 in the max height. Click ok and the whole map is re-sized in elevation.

A note about *unchanged value. there are only two values that can be use in this box 0(zero) or 250. When it is left at 0 the map is re-sized through the range from min to max. If 250 is input then the map will be re-sized in 2 bursts as it were: 1. From the new min height to the current sealevel (leaving it unchanged) and 2. From the current sealevel(leaving it unchanged) to the new max height.

    Hollah if you need more.

    Cheers

Thanks for the help drunkapple. It was all a bit confusing at first and I'm still not quite sure of the exact process but I have resized the map and scaled the terrain... I'm just not sure how I did it exactley.
