Garbage Import/Export

So, using a common strategy of exporting garbage from a nice town into a slum town.

However, I have about 30k of garbage to get rid of, but I can only initiate a deal up to about 1k units. In my slum city, I have 1 trash incinerator, a large zoned area of landfill, 10+ of PEG's Garbage Chutes, and a couple of recycling centers. This amounts to about 70k capacity. I have plenty of financial leeway to export/import more, but simply, the maximum allowed is 1k.

I wondered if anyone knew what the problem is and how to solve it? Thanks in advance.

PS The game version is SC4 + RH

Do you have the EP1 update? Sounds like an unfixed bug.

Nothing to do with game updates. I once had a thread explaining in every detail how to handle garbage regionwide. Example: Having a region of 36 tiles, and only one tile has the garbage. The problem is that the thread was somehow deleted when updating the site.

In short, here is what to do. You have to build a few garbage collection sites on at least one tile touching the maincity. This tile has to be played on regularily to keep up with the neighboring city. Once the maincity is able to export the garbage to that tile, do it and make sure to choose the maximum that is available, then return to the garbage tile and have it imported, which will be usually a little higher than the export in the citytile. Then return to the city tile and continue to play, always making sure to go back to the garbage and repeat to increase the import. Once you have reached a reasonable amount of garbage coming in from the maincity into the garbage tile, do the same thing with a new tile and start exporting this garbage that comes from the maincity to the third tile, now becoming the new garbage tile. This can go on with time until you have reached the centertile of your region that will burn the garbage for all tiles in the region. Be aware though, this will take time and a lot of "traveling" between the tiles.

In short, that's it. I have done it and am doing it with all the regions I play with eversince I discovered that it is possible only to have one polluted tile in a region. The same goes for power (energy) which also can be sold and bought from and to other tiles. Done that before also. Maybe it is possible to do it with water also, which I haven't tried yet though.

Oh, I almost forgot, once the first garbage tile is selling 100% of its garbage that is imported from the maincity to the second garbage tile, then you can simply cut off road access to the garbage facilities, which will (with time) clean themselves, and in time you will have a garbage free environment in this tile also, ready to be populated. Do this from one tile to another and soon every occupied tile will import and export garbage to one main garbage tile only, somewhere in your region.

So, make sure to play in both tiles here and there oftento keep the demand to export and import at the same level all the time and slowly (with patience) your problem will be solved.

This is a challenge to do, it will take some time and a lot of planning, but it is fun and very practical at the end. I was the first to discover this back in 94 and had a lot of fun doing so. I still do it, even with my new CJ on SC4Devotion (The Winding River Project). Maybe one day (if I can find the time) I will rewrite an all detailed version with pictures of the garbage "adventure", I just love SC4 garbage.....lol

Below are some pictures of this " regional garbage city".

So in essence, are you saying that to obtain a larger maximum deal export/import rate, I just simply alternate between the cities?

Yes, go playing from one tile to the other and spend some months in each, giving it time to adjust, and increase the demand to import for the garbage tile and export for the maincity tile. Like I said, it takes time but is much worth it and also intersting to achieve in the longrun. ;)

The maincity though will only produce so much, without growing, therefor the export can only be so much....you cannot increase the amount to export that you can produce and the garbage tile will only accept as much as you can produce in the maincity. Therefor if you play in both tiles for a few months you will be able to increase both with time.

Producing more garbage >>> increases the export for garbage in the maincity tile.

Export more garbage >>> increases the amount able to import in the garbage tile.

    ;)

Only one question: What about Water Treatment Station - is it works in the garbage ? :D

but I have about 30k garbage production, with 1k import/export so if I grow it some more, this number will increase. Meanwhile I will only be able to import/export a very small fraction of this?

How about monthly budget of the garbage city? Is it in the black?

Yes, it is, the net budget is +9k

I have of course a water treatment in the garbagetile, which takes care of the ground and water pollution. The lotfile is of course modified to fit my needs or better, the needs of the garbagetile, which with time can indeed produce a lot of pollution.

The below is a picture that was taken early in the developpment of the surrounding cities, showing clearly that the water and ground pollution is way higher on the other side of the river where the farms are, and no pollution is near the actual garbage piles because of the increased watertreatment lotfile.

Here you can see that the possibility to receive is ALWAYS bigger than the amount that you can actually import. Keep it this way all the time. The picture was taken again earlier in the game.

jwong, concerning the budget, it is of course clear and understandable that the maincitytile will have to pay for the export, nothing is free in real life. The garbagetile makes a lot of money which is used to increase the capacity of receiving more garbage.

Now, you said you have 30K of garbage to export, but only 1000 is only accepted. (make sure that you have the capacity to receive) Well, this is the matter of patience and time that I told you before. You will have to play in both tiles now, trying for the moment not to grow too much in the maincity to keep the garbage production at it lowest and give the garbagetile the chance to level its import rate with the maincity. But you still have to play in both tiles for a few months/year(s) at a time, go back to the other and play again and so on.......You will see with time that the import quantity in the garbage tile will slowly adjust itself to the export needed by the maincity tile. This can take some time. It would have been more "smoother" if you have a started both tiles right from the beginning of their development. For the moment all I can say is trying not to grow too fast the maincitytile and creating a small increase to receive (or burn etc) the garbagetile facilities several times. Once the routine is in place all will almost balance by itself and everytime the amount of garbage in the sim-occupied tiles increases, just increase the import on the garbage-receiving tile, making sure that you have enough capacities of garbage tiles, burnes or other means of getting rid of the garbage.

With a burner you will end up at a time that you produce enough electricity (power) that you can supply the maintile with all they need. ;)

    Good luck
