Question about ferries

Hi all,

I know it's impossible to build a bridge between two cities if they are seperated by water (basic SC4 knowledge :D ), but is it possible to connect two cities by ferry, or do some same-kind limiatons apply?

I used ferries in a region a while ago. They were highly used and, I believe, they went across city boundaries. But it's been a while so I can't say for sure.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I can confirm that they do go across city boundaries, but I'm still not sure if you can put a car ferry in one city and a passenger ferry in another to form a viable transit network... Anyone know?

Car ferries only connect to other car ferry terminals, passenger ferries only connect to other passenger ferry terminals. You need at least two of the same type with power. Ferries will cross boarders to adjacent city tiles.

I currently have a region that has a lot of water courses. Almost all the tiles along the watercourses are connected by a very busy car/passenger ferry service, and I have a few short-haul water taxis as well.

If you want to connect two city tiles by bridges you need a shared island between them big enough to terminate two bridges.

I guess it can, and I'm sure you also need two same-typed terminals in the same city as well, too.

A way to go around it is to terraform a small island right at the city border and terminate bridges there, then connect the two cities by road. (Or, to simply avoid making rivers follow city borders)

The dreaded commuter loop doesn't need ferries to happen, but since intercity ferries are virtually instantaneous they do abet the process. You just have to be careful.
