It was working before… I recently put a download in my plugins folder, and this is when the problem started. I thought it may be the new download… So I removed the files that might have caused the problem; of course that didn’t work!

I reinstalled the game and the freezing is still persistent!

I need help!!

is your windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit.. in some case's windows 7 has been known to crash simcity 4 with out any reason. i get this alot even with the update's being installed. has your said you gone through your plugin's and still the game crashe's on you. another way you can try is to load sc4 when your at the region screen press your windows Key and press alt ctrl & del to bring task manger up and then hit the button where it says show processes from all users then find the sc4 in the list left click it set Affinity and choose 1 cpu.. ( if you have mutiple cpu's just make sure cpu 0 is unclicked and try it that way. and if it still crashes try and sc4 in Cap windows xp mode and run as adminstrator then load the game..

sorry this is a cycle that happens in windows 7 with sc4 between 32 & 64 bit meachines.. like i said mine crash alittle just make sure u save cities befor you do else you have a headache lol good luck :D ( oh and if your game freezing while playing just makes sure shadows are off and you notice the game run lot more better )

Indeed. I have to play around with my CPUs in order to stop my game from freezing/crashing. Just make sure you keep saving your game regularly because you can find yourself losing a lot of cities :)

If Sim City is a Steam download there is a lot of information on their Sim City forum for this. Click Here.

It happened for me and I resolved it by setting it to Windowed mode and rendering the graphics by the software. I did a lot of changes so I'm not sure which one worked but give it a go.

Also try:

Setting the compatibility mode (on the .exe right click, select properties and then select the Windows version the game was developed for).

Changing the number of CPU cores you use: in Steam set the launch options thusly: -CPUCount:x (where X is the number of cores you want to use).

Launch the game without the intro: in Steam it's this in the launch options: -Intro:off

The link from Steam is very clear, easy to read and great set of instructions for getting Sim City to work. In some ways having SimCity in Steam makes getting it to launch and stay open a lot more than just the programme on its own!

Before I configured it I would get maybe 40 mins play out of Sim City. I was playing 8 hours on Sunday without any crashes or hard freezes.
