SC4 does not fill screen

So, I installed SC4 on the I7/GTX260 system. No matter what screen settings (on Dell 23" monitor) SC4 doesn't fill the screen, large black bands on either side of playing area. Phenom w/5770 on a 24" monitor doesn't do this. It's the Steam edition which uses this shortcut: .steam://rungameid/24780

I tried adding the custom resolution line to the shortcut but without success.

Help me ObiWon you're my only hope.

    I fixed it, I adjusted scaling in the GPU settings to full screen while in gaming mode, thanks anyway.

    Well, first we need to know more about your monitor and your game. I am running a 24" monitor at 1920 x 1080 at full screen without a problem. The fix you need is probably to use the two options to set up your screen resolution:

    -CustomResolution:Enabled and the custom resolution definition -rwxhxd

    Where w = the horizontal pixel count;

    h = the vertical pixel count; and

    d = the graphics depth (probably 32)

    this is the command line I use for this:

    "C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" \

    -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:software \

    -CPUcount:1

    I am on Linux, so the backslashes simply tell the parser to ignore the new line characters. Please note that options after the final quote are delimited by spaces.

    That's nice. Did you try the fix I suggested?

    OK, we are clearly knocking heads here. It has nothing to do with your apps folder. The options go on the command line which in my case is in a script. In your case it is probably in the initiation shortcut for the game. Right click on the shortcut and choose whatever it takes to edit it, and proceed from there.

    Every Windows user should understand that Windows is laying on top of a hacked up version of DOS, and that all programs are launched by the use of a command line. This line is sometimes carried in shortcuts, and some times in scripts (.bat files), or real scripts in the Windows scripting language.

    Just to give you an idea of what the differences are between Windows and Linux, here is a full copy of my script:

    #!/bin/bash

    date

    env WINEPREFIX="/home/john/.wine" \

    wine "C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" \

    -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:software \

    -CPUcount:1 &>~/sc4.log

    date

    You can see I have some instrumentation in this script. Here is an editing image of my shortcut calling my script.

    starting%20sc4%20from%20Linux%20shortcut.jpg

    It does not apply to Windows environments, but you should get the idea here. Making old games work on new gear means you have to acquire a few computer smarts.
