RHW Functionality Questions

I am considering reintroducing RHW to my game, but I need to find out about two things first before I can do that:

1. Has anyone figured out a workaround for tunnels other than the avenue/1-way road tunnel substitutes?

2. Do we have functional bridges for RHW larger than the 4S? Where I'm from a 4S is a country road; I need to be able to cross 6 and 8 lane RHW over the bodies of water in my cities, as my main city at the moment is situated on a river that has two highways crossing it. If I replace those with RHW, they will have to be RHW 6 at the least, and they need to be able to retain all the crossings that they have at the moment.

If I can't find a way to make RHW work properly on something other than flat maps with no internal bodies of water, then I'll just have to stick to the Maxis highways.Clarksville-Sep.%25208%252C%25201121333173714.jpg

In case my description is unclear, this is the city I'm talking about (along with several others nearby). The crossings are clearly visible.

1. To be short, RHW tunnels are impossible. It's an .EXE thing that simply can't be changed.

2. There are currently no bridges wider than RHW-4 available for public download. There were a few in development but, aside from some re-texturing work on one of them (and probably more re-texturing work to follow) that's as far as it's gotten.

I'm aware that true tunnels are not possible. However, I was wondering whether a workaround existed, perhaps in the form of a lot that turns the RHW traffic into subway traffic. Right now I have no way for any RHW larger than 4 to go through a mountain. Also, shame to hear that there aren't any bridges. That basically renders the RHW useless to me.

In that case, there aren't any that directly connect to RHW, but there are a few that connect to OWR instead. Transition from RHW to OWR (preferrably from RHW-4) and connect.

I'll check that out, see if I can make it work with the RHW 6 at least. RHW-4 is way too small for urban areas.

What on earth are you doing with RHW in an urban area? Limited access express ways go through or around urban areas, preferably around. The ramps take up just too much space. You have a problem with NWM??

It'll work but it won't be pretty.

What on earth are you doing with RHW in an urban area?

I'm sure it's a case of personal preference.

In the U.S., highways run right through the hearts of cities, snaking around business districts and connecting as close to the downtown as possible. I tend to build American-style cities, so I need to get my highways into the city (this I've managed to do; it is quite possible to force RHW into a densely built area). Even if I wanted to build my highway around the city, there's still the issue of how I'm going to cross over rivers and through mountains. A 4 lane highway is a country road; I need to be able to get 6 lanes for a suburban highway. NWM is nice for arterial roads, but it still has at-grade intersections. A proper urban highway allows you to shoot straight through the city center without ever stopping on a city street.

That's what I need my highways to be able to do.

Whatever is going on, this is the second GIF image that has posted as zero size. Perhaps there is a bug in the system, or the site you are using is not transmitting them properly.

One "workaround" I have used in the past is to split an RHW-6 or 8 into two RHW-4s and simply plop multiple bridges side-by-side (still have to be 1 tile apart). I re-join them on the other bank. It isn't ideal, but it works.

But if there are already some wider rhw bridges, why can't they be released. They shouldn't be perfect. I haven't got any problems with some bugs, but I need these bridges! (Sorry because of my english gramatic) ;)

If you want to do bridges wider than 6 lanes or bridges that carry both directions of traffic, you need to use the Maxis Highway tool and drag it across the water. Then select the desired RHW bridge from the menu.
