Northern Ireland to introduce compulsory micro-chipping of Dogs

NI is the frst country in the UK to introduce compulsory Micro-chipping of Dogs. Micro chips are placed under the skin in the dog's neck and can be scanned to find out who is the owner etc..

Applause, applause. No more "stray" dogs after a while since they will always be traceable. Why did you think it was noteworthy? Most shelters on this continent micro ship both dogs and cats that are adopted from shelters, and I always had my dogs micro chipped.

While I understand the reasoning for putting microchips on pets, it seems a little creepy (how long until you're putting microchips on us?). And, making it compulsory utterly rubs me the wrong way. More government intrusion into people's personal affairs.

Northern Ireland is hardly a world mover and shaker. The idea of being able to identify a pet is regarded by the animal services and rescue operations to be extremely valuable especially in returning of lost pets. There may be bureaucratic reasons for this, but I still applaud. An animal can't tell you who he is.

Whilst micro-chipping has been around for some time this is the first time for "compulsory" micro-chipping.

About time,they need that to be compulsory here too for every thing that goes out the door of a pet store.

That and all cats and dogs be spayed and neutered before they are sold.

Good trick, that. Spaying is a hysterectomy while neutering is castration. I don't think there are many hermaphrodites.
