I have played Sim City 1, SC2K, SC3K for years on PC. Finally, I got SC4 Deluxe with Rush Hour for Christmas, for Mac. My Mac is a mid-2009 Macbook Pro with Intel 2.8ghz and 4GB Ram. I was unable to get the game to install at first, then I downloaded some plug-in and the game installed. Or at least I think it did...can it run off the DVD?

Anyway, it plays OK with 3 exceptions I have noticed so far, in order of severity:

    1. Game freezes up after 15-20 minutes or so. All progress is lost unless you save very frequently. Having to remember to save every couple of minutes is very annoying.

    2. There is no music, despite settings set for it to play. All other sounds seem to play fine.

    3. On close zoom, you can see reflections of things you shouldn't see, such as pieces of roadwork laid over random terrain. Zoom out, and these disappear.

How can I prevent these freeze-ups which require a force-quit? I am running Lion and had never installed the game prior to Lion. How can I get music?

    Thanks

    1) Have you installed the Aspyr Universal Beta Patch? Seems like it, since SC4 won't run on OS X Lion (10.7) otherwise. I have heard that it is still relatively unstable, and that there is no more work being done on it. 32.gif

    2) I get that as well, playing on a Power Mac G5, Mac OS X Leopard (10.5), without the above update. I have to switch out and in of SimCity (Command-Tab), to get the built-in music playlist to continue.

    3) Sorry, I really don't know that much!

Please let us know of as many details as possible. Thanks 44.gif

Thanks for the reply. Played it last night; it actually only froze up once. When it freezes up is random; it could be while saving, or changing from the advisors panel over to the budget panel. Really, anytime. The only thing I did yesterday was turn off cloud and wave animation, mainly because I prefer them off. Still no music, of course.

I don't think there's anything else that you could do, unless you want to use SC4 for PC instead. Your computer is certainly able to run Windows, through Boot Camp, VMWare or Parallels. This article explains how to use VMWare and SC4 to great effect 2.gif
