Airport efficiency

    Some time ago I asked a question on this site regarding the airport capacity, but yet again I have a problem regarding the aiport. This time it's about the efficiency. As instructed I've bettered my connections to my commercial areas and even went as far as building a whole island settlement with the airport and high-dens commercial zones around it. As of right now, around 50.000 of the 53.000 available capacity is being used (Small Municipal Airport). Yet the efficiency is 2/5, which makes my airport look covered with mud and sh*t (Just like an abandoned building from a res or com area..)

    ACTUAL QUESTION:

    Can the airport upgrade to a 'middle' or 'normal' sized airport to make sure my airport doesn't look like crap anymore ? If not, how in the world can I make the thing look normal again ? I'm not dozing it to build it over again so that in the end it'll end up just like it is now.. It's just beyond me how a building which is still not being used to it's full capacity already has trouble dealing what it's going through now.. Please help.

    When you query the airport does it show any deficiencies? Is it watered? Does it actually have employees (route query)? If it is a Maxis airport, it will upgrade eventually when it is over capacity.

    As you might gather from Moose's reply, you can speed the upgrade by temporarily reducing the funding so that usage exceeds the new, lower capacity. Then, once the airport has upgraded, you can restore the funding.

    Thanks for the replies. Yes it's watered, powered, has people going in and out of the airport etc.. And Z1, how long do I have to wait ? I've just reduced the funding, it's over capacity now but there is no upgrade message popping up..
