How to import props into Lots?

I've got a question that may have been clobbered to death already, but I couldn't find the answer yet - if it's there I would be very much obliged if you just pointed where I should have looked better!

What is it that I want to do? Well, I recently went into building lots (not bats as of yet!) and of course I would like to decorate my lots with some of the beautiful props that have been made available by a number of fantastic artists! The point is that in many cases you only need one or two of the many props that come with a specific prop-datfile. I would like to extract these one or two props from the original datfile and import them to my Lot-file. The benefits of this are obvious: a) you get only 1, self-contained file (also easier to remove); b) no problems with updates (e.g. a number of train stations don't work because the 3rd party propfiles were changed in the meantime).

The question: how do you extract a particular prop from a propfile and how do you import it into a Lotfile?

Help would be appreciated!

PS: Of course, also when a prop is incorporated in a Lot, the original author of the prop should be duly credited!
