I don't know if this has been asked before, and I'm new to the site, not the game. I was just wondering if I could download things from the ST Exchange onto a USB drive, if so how do you do this?

Yes, you can download to your computer and move the folders to your USB drive. Or you can direct the download to the drive by changing the download path in the download window - might depend on your operating system as to how this is done.

You would download them to your plugins foler like normal. Then copy your plugins foler, open your flash drive, and paste it. If you plan on using these plugins on another computer, merge the two folders into one "plugins" folder in your Documents\Simcity 4\Plugins Folder.

If you just want to download them directly to your flash-drive and not copy your whole plugins folder, then just extract them to your flash drive location instead of your plugins folder by navigating through My Computer, Flash Drive Name.

Good heavens! What would you want with all those .zip files cluttering up your Plugins folder?? I keep a Downloads folder for that, and it is on a free-standing 1 TB disk drive, but there is no reason it couldn't be on a flash drive. My downloads folder acts as a backup for my plugins as well as a repository for all the documentation that doesn't belong in the Plugins folder. The only things in my plugins folder are plugins. None of the junk that comes with the usual download. This garbage just slows down the game loading.

Ok, I don't think I understand anything that post said. Haha I think I get that you are saying you only keep the plugin itself. Not the pictures or readmes, etc.

@Jack3oh3: What I said is you need two folders to handle plugins right. One called Downloads which is not in your SimCity 4 structure at all, but directly subordinate to your Documents folder into which you alwayx download stuff. You can set your browser to always ask where to store stuff.

Not all of my downloaded plugins are in the game at the moment, and I haven't cleaned out all the documentation as yet. However, extraneous files do slow down the program load slightly, so it is worth getting rid of as many as you can. I just keep all that over in Downloads.

I hope this is clearer now.

@People on school servers:

What did you expect? You are not supposed to be running games when you are at school and it is silly to think you should.

I have taught for several years in a college environment, and we were very careful to block such things. Students are supposed to be working on class work or homework topics at school, even in free/study periods. Access to the social networks, frankly, is a curse, and if I were running the IT department, all of them would be blocked and all cell phones inside the buildings would be jammed.

You pay good money to attend school, and it is your job of employment while you are there. The school is your employer in a way, even though you are paying them. Some "freedoms" need to be curtailed in the necessity of work.

If you are bored with school, you can always vote with your feet.
