EP1 Update

So, before I had installed the EP1 update and noticed that the shadows looked under detailed and you could not get rid of them, so I deleted some of those files and noticed that the game would not start and that;s why I reinstalled. Now for night-lighting reasons, I want to get EP1 but I don't want the shadows. How do I get rid of that problem? Also, where do I extract the EP1 files, and I already read how to install on SC4Devotion, but want People advice. How do I get rid of those pesky shadows when downloading EP1?

If you mean you deleted game files, then yes, game files are need for proper function and shouldn't be deleted.

Also, where do I extract the EP1 files, and I already read how to install on SC4Devotion, but want People advice.

You can extract it anywhere. Just be sure to run the executable file in the zip. It will automatically install the updated files provided your original files are in the default location.

How do I get rid of those pesky shadows...

If I'm understanding you correctly, you can set the graphic setting for "Shadows" to "Low" and they shouldn't appear in the game. Were you having problems with the shadows?

Okay, with the shadows, noticed they looked terrible and under-detailed and tried to turn them off, but it would not happen. What else is there to do?

Do you run the game in Software mode? Shadows do appear "splotchy" at the lower settings when doing so. Not sure anything can be done about it.

Well, I usually have it on Hardware, but when I got EP1 they appear splotchy. Does EP1 just change it to Software and you have to change it back?

You haven't checked your settings? 42.gif37.gif

Yes, it can happen; when you update the game it may return all your settings to Low.... and return Hardware setting to Software.... sometimes even the resolution...

If that isn't the problem..have you updated/changed your video card lately? I read a few people having problems from installing updates to their video drivers? -shrug-

I guess it happened. And by the way, we don't have an old laptop, I just got it. Good video card.

For the update, check the version of the game that you have. Go to the C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps folder and either right=click or hover the mouse over the SimCity 4.exe file. This will show a version number similar to 1.1.638.0. Let us know what that number is.

For the shadows, you might post a picture of the shadows with the Shadow setting on Low and one on High so we know exactly what you are experiencing. In my experience, turning the shadows to Low in Hardware mode, results in no shadows.

Nevermind, I got it figured out, I now have no shadows, like usual, I have nightlights, now I am happy. Thanks for y'all's help though. :thumb:
