Kinnect capabilities?

Really? Kind of overkill for a PC. Yet another Microsoft lock-in?

Not necessarily. Microsoft has said that it would like to use the capabilities of the Kinect to make it easier for the disabled to use a computer.

Kinnect can be used like a touch screen. Popular Science Magazine shows you how.

It doesn't have to. We have already demonstrated the ability to track physical movements and translate it into movements on a computer. Had that technology long before the Kinect was even thought of.

One does not need a touch screen for gesture based "touch" screens. Infrared lasers and infrared detectors can detect movement better than common surface interruption detection.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

One does not need a touch screen for gesture based "touch" screens. Infrared lasers and infrared detectors can detect movement better than common surface interruption detection.

One shouldn't need any extra peripheral hardware to use an operating system. This is very likely a fad that will blow over when its uselessness is apparent. What is really needed is full voice activation. Waving your arms around it not the way to get something done in a civilized way except for games.

    Metro style apps can now be closed by swiping down, and pictures have leaked showing that the charm bar can be made transparent.
