Hello, just started this awesome game. Played previously during release so bit rusty and I have few questions. Obviusly read the FAQ's and guides but here are some questions left to clarify, if you don't mind:

    Firstly about railroads.

1)Does the arrow in passenger station and freight station have to be towards the automobile road or the railroad?

2)Should I even bother building freight stations? I think my current record usage that I have witnessed was about 2%. I've been putting them middle of Industrial zones, which usually are satellite areas at the edges of the map.

    Secondly about RCI

3)Is the demand for $$$-commercial and $$$-industrial direcltly linked to education of the sims?

Then about how to position commercial zones

4)I usually have troubles finding places for my commercial zones, becouse I know they are supposed to be in busy central location possibly in the middle of the city. But does commercial work as a satellite? Will Sims travel to commercial areas or do they have to be at the side of residential $$ and $$$ zones which are teaming with people?

    Thanks!

First than anything else. Welcome to Simtropolis and hope you have a nice time here.

Second, I need to know if it's not a vanilla version to bring you a better support to you questions, still, I can give you some advice.

    1. No, just needs to have railroad & a way for the cars to reach the stations by one side.

    2. Freight Train Stations can be a really good choice when your industrial zones are located to far from the edge of the city and/or any road connection, because it cuts times really much, but the Sims usually don't have a tendency for mass transit without a mod that fixes this, since, like in SC3000, they choose less distance over less time, causing also the annoying long commutes, even if they have a job source (like an office) nearby to walk. To fix it the best reccomendation is the NAM, available here at the STEX.

    For Windows.

    For Mac.

    3. Yes it is, but also to the wealth of them, $$ building don't appear until the Middle Class (R$$) get their houses, and $$$ buildings don't appear until the Wealthy Sims (R$$$) have built there mansions. And both appear by the development of the region. Education makes wealthier sims pop up in the city, making a start for demand of the building that employ them according to their wealth.

    4. Most of the time, the best is to have commercial in the center of your city, but also it should be, like in real life by the main streets or where there is something that attracts the commercial desirability, the places with much traffic or the road connections. You could have sattellite zones in your city for commercial? Yes, you can, but is mostly recommended to have commercial by residential areas or viceversa.

Hope to have helped. and Happy Simming. :D

Thanks for the info. I in fact have SC4 Deluxe with Rush Hour, and I also installed 900mb mod pack which included those NAMs, SAMs and whatnot.

    1. No, just needs to have railroad & a way for the cars to reach the stations by one side.

Did I understand correctly, it doesn't matter which side of the train station touches the railroad?

The arrow goes to your road network. The rails can be on any other side.

Rail for freight should go through the industrial zone. Plants adjacent to the tracks will load freight directly, so consider some rail spurs. You need a fraight station to collect freight from plants that don't tough the tracks, and your farms. Remember, freight doesn't move across city boundaries. It just goes to the big bit bucket in the sky.
