 Hi everyone,

im using SC4RH with NAM mode instaled, everything going well.

is there anyway i can change all roads speed limits, not vary but all of it.

like if Road limit is 60K's i want to change it to120K's

or high ways from 120k's i want to change to 180K's

i

so cars pr trucks can go faster not UDI but the actuall simis cars (hopefully less commit time too)

anways i can do this or any mods?

thanks guys.

No, you can't change the speed limits on SC4. It will not allow you to micromanage like that.

This is a simulation.  Changing to those speeds would endanger the Sims crossing streets.  Last time I was in France, the in-town speed limit was 60 K.p.h., out of town on two way roads was 80, and 100 if there was a passing lane.  The limited access expressways were 120.  You really want to stay realistic.  No one would legislate those speeds.

Additionally, the traffic simulator and many transit stations depend on the speeds being set to their current values. If you change the speeds significantly, such as you proposed, you'll mess up the traffic simulation.

    oh ok! thanks guys!

only if i could set the real high ways to higher speed limits would of been fine too.

    but thanks everyone.

Yeah it would be nice to modify your highways speed limits, if you want them to be a superhighway or something.

life isn't fast enough for you?

Funny, ... and I was looking for a lower speed on highways since they seem to go a little too fast to be realistic for North-American standards.

To me it seems pretty realistic as to how fast people actually drive on the freeway. The posted freeway speeds around where I live are all 60-65mph, but you'll see at least half the traffic doing 75+, and it's not uncommon to see people in the left lane doing 80-90mph when the road isn't congested.

On most of the Metro Detroit freeways, it's 70. The only exceptions are The Lodge and The Southfield (both are only 55). But most people do 85 or 90. I usually do 90 or 95. Fastest I've ever done was 120 on I-75 The Chrysler. I would've done 125 or 130, but a black Escalade got in my way.

German Autobahns man! some autobahns they dont have limit but they suggest drivers to drive 150K/h and if police catch you doing 300K/h (200M/H) they cant do a thing) and thats what i want for my sims 9.gif

but seriously the only thing made me to share this with everyone was, i noticed Real highways all of them have same speed limit, and when i use wider highways like 3 or 4 lans it just changes the flow of the road. and because most of the sims drives stick to left lanes for i dont know what reason and not using the middle lanes i thought it might be a way to fix this.

Actually this brings up a few interesting thoughts on realism:

    1) What if the distance between intersections or density of the zones around the roads could affect speed limits -> traffic. I see this around where I live as the road transits to the edge of the suburb the speed limit goes up 10km/h

    2) The same applies to roads that go cross country, you see this on two lane "highways", the speed limits are pretty fast but its pretty much the same size of a road if we try to create this in simcity.

    3) School zones would reduce speed around a certain area, causing the player to think about placement, city planning more carefully, Ex. Nearby there is a "Road" that goes from 60 to 40km/h.

I can see your desire to change how fast the sims go on the roads, but they do seem to go fast enough, or else it would be speedway city. lol

And i see a post here by someone who should have been jailed for reckless driving. :P

Actually, all the traffic speeds used by the traffic simulator are faster than realistic, simply because those numbers produce the best simulation in terms of traffic behavior.

For example, traffic speed on roads is 50 kph, or 31 mph. At first glance, this seems like a typical American travel speed, where the speed limit in cities is often 30 mph. But in reality, even with almost no traffic, it is almost impossible to average that speed due to the presence of crosswalks, stop signs, and stop lights. Instead, drivers are lucky to average about 20 mph inside a city, or two thirds of the posted speed limit. On average, American highways have speed limits around 60 mph, about three times as fast as roads.

But unlike roads, highways don't have any stops. So the two thirds rule doesn't apply to them; uncongested traffic often flows at the posted limit. So by making the speed of highways 150 kph in the NAM traffic simulator, highway speeds are three times road speeds - just like in RL. (At least in the U.S.) Rural road speeds may be higher, but we currently have no way of simulating that in SC4.

If you ask me, all roads need to be a lot faster. Cities are for traffic, and slow roads create traffic problems.

One of the most often used tricks of urban traffic managers is the use of one-way traffic mazes to slow traffic down. Speeding things up is a symptom of today's need for speed, which is an item of modern culture. You wouldn't like the traffic accident statistics if things were faster.

However, the RHW team could consider higher limits for limited access expressways.

    Pertinent point:

You can use the RHW2 to some degree to allow faster travel outside of an urban area. Lots won't grow next to RHW2, so be mindful of that.
