SimCity 4 won't even start

Hello, I'm having a lot of trouble here right now, I try to make an attempt to open SC4 from the start menu and that icon with the bridge pops up which tells me it's initializing and then nothing! 28.gif
So I go and delete some mods out of my plugins folder that take up a lot of space alone, try it again and again, nothing.
I find it weird seeing as I played this game a couple of days ago and it worked fine

My computer has an Intel Pentium 4 with 3GB of ram and no memory upgrades. I have no Idea what the sound and video card is.

My Sim City 4 is the deluxe verson.

Welcome to the conversation.

It is possible that you have media trouble.  Click on your run box and enter the program name dxdiag and let us know what's on the first page.  You should check your sound system especially to make sure it is working.

What operating system are you running?

When the program doesn't run, don't necessarily blame it on your plugins.

You didn't say, but did you have the play disk (2) in your drive?  If you have the wrong disk, the program should display a message before it quits.

I think you may have arrived at the point where you have too much stuff to load and have run out of virtual space.  To check this one, you need to learn about your machines configuration for swap space.  It would be good if you had a local geek to help you here.

One more obvious thing.  Have you installed the two patches from the EA site?

I had the exact same problem with my old computer. It was a Dell desktop running XP. I recall the exact same issue, except sometimes it would work and other times it wouldn't. How I solved the problem was by buying a new computer and never using that old one again. I'm sure you don't really like that answer, but I can tell you it's NOT AT ALL anything to do with your plug ins because my issue occured before I even knew what a plug-in for this game was. My old computer is really a POS and it's not at all new, and if I had to guess at why it wouldn't run is because, like A Nonny Moose said, you're at the point where too much stuff is running and it can't load. I don't recall if I ever got the patches from the EA site on the old computer, but that could also be your problem. If it were that you weren't using disk 2, I think a box would have come up that said you weren't using the right CD. My issue was on XP, and now I'm on a 4GB Toshiba laptop and uses Vista, and I no longer have that problem.

When I had the problem, I hated it. It was incredibly agitating.

Thanks guys, it was disk 2 running on XP and somehow, the game started working again after an inccedent involving the BSOD while running dxdiag. And by the way, yes both updates were installed

Virus scan time, I think.  Either that are you have an incomplete update to the O/S that needed a boot.

If you have never done it, or not for a long time, I would schedule an overnight defragmentation run.  You should defrag at least once a week when running this program.  It can cause a lot of disk extents for any city that is saved frequently.

Maybe you should ask this on the site of the people who brought you DDX, Microsoft.  We can't handle operating system problems like this one.
