Welcome to The Pass

(a city saved from the nuke power of beign deleted)

This is a fictive railway pass trough the great mountains of the Velocity. I started this city more than a year ago having the love for the trains in my mind and it took me some time until I finally build this wonderful city. Let me share with you some good and bad experience about building it.

First, I had to rise some mountains... either they were too tall, either too short... but after several attempts I finally rise them from the bottom of the ocean...

Second, I had to build up some rails... auch... but where to take money from? So I built up a little town to get in some good money income. Now let's lay down the rails... level up some terrain... lay rails... build bridges... build tunnels... lay more rails... When I was done with the rails I started building the catenary, then to plant trees... plant more trees... plant even more trees...

Third, with pass finally completed now I had to build up some cities... yeah... I started it reaaaly wrong. I had like 5 attempts 'till I finally managed to make three nice little mountain cities that I will present later on. I named them City1ne, City2wo and SkyTown.

Now something very interesting about this city fate... In the last days I wanted make some cleaning trough my computer and I find this city and guess what? I wanted to delete it... why? Because I wanted to rebuild this pass using newer content... I tried again and tried but in the end I came with an idea. Since each of us are unique in their way I would like to start a contest: Who can build the greatest railway pass? Prize is unknown atm... but... knowing you are the best maybe mean something too. 4.gif

Here are some pics from the city. Enjoy the little vacation into my city. 4.gif

Let us spy a little The Pass using some strictly secret satellites.

Some green energy to fuel the dirty industry. Too bad we can't just build all green in this game.

screenshot07a.jpg

Starting up from City1ne, crossing few bridges, passing few tunnels, getting close to the mountain range, then... the pain for the train drivers just begin, driving slowly uphill and downhill trough the narrow gorges, they make everything they can to get safe to the other part of The Pass.

screenshot08sy.jpg

Taking some U-turn and closing to the SkyTown.

screenshot09e.jpg

Finally a little station up in the heavens... the SkyTown. Let them take some good eating break then let put em in danger again going downhill the mountain in an even dangerous trip. You can see the destination somewhere down there.

screenshot16w.jpg

Let's see a little from where they came.... (N is down)

screenshot17b.jpg

...a 90 degree rotation... (N is left)

screenshot18qx.jpg

...another one... (N is up)

screenshot19i.jpg

...and another one... (N is right)

screenshot20ws.jpg

Now let take a closer look at some trains going up and down.

screenshot21h.jpg

Lots and lots of curves, pretty hard to drive trough those mountains eh? But SkyTown is pretty close.

screenshot23z.jpg

Just don't look down! At west it's the SkyTown and in the north you can see the rails that go downhill toward the City2wo.

screenshot24a.jpg

Finally the other part of the pass. (N is down)

screenshot25cy.jpg

It's already evening and our train is still going back toward City1ne. (N is down)

screenshot26o.jpg

Few other trains at the base of the mountain in the next days. (N is up)

Well this is a little presentation of my little city... more pics to come in the future. Thanks for watching and sorry for my bad English. 4.gif

Very good work! The leveling of those rails is very bumpy, but hell, I'd be scared to take on those mountains. You've got guts to take on that terrain.

I'm the 'A' to the 'r', to the c-h-e-a-n,
and even though my name means 'old' I'm really quite pimp,
I'm Archilicious.

When everything else fail, read the manual... 4.gif It took me some time to figure out how to work with those huge images.

Here is a huge panoramic view of The Pass. Enjoy the view.

(Click on the image for a better resolution. Warning: the image size is over 3000x1700.)

Building such highly detailed landscape require some huge computer power. My plan was to plant trees on all the map but... the game run way too slow on a 2x2,5 GHz computer (0-5 FPS). Also making some panoramic views require large amount of memory to be finalised. 4GB RAM seems to be not enough for what I wanted to make so I made a smaller panoramic view of the pass.

In the next updates I will show you some pics from the Two Cities.

    Thanks. 4.gif

This is quite possibly the coolest city I have ever seen.

Not much on realism, but the uniqueness of it just brings it out. You make a combo of rock mods, rails, seasonal trees, and dense evergreen forests among sky-high mountains to make it astonishingly....awesome.

The rails remind me of a roller coaster. 3.gif

Keep it up, I hope you do more updates once this city is exhausted!
