Hi everyone,

I have a very old computer which I installed my SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition on. I sensed that it will soon die to I saved most of my files on a usb including some of my games because most of my game cds are all un usable now. So when I got my new computer, a:

Lenovo

Windows XP Professional

Version 2002 Service Pack 3

Intel (R

Pentium ® D CPU 3.00GHz

2.39 GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM

150GB capacity

I pasted all of my files back and checked them. All of my other games like Civilization III and Warcraft III worked fine exept my SmCity 4. When I started the game and played the tutorial, this message appears and wont let me continiue. If I create a new region all the thext are garbles like the second example. Can anyone please help me fix this? Reinstalling the game is not an option since I dont have the cd anymore. Buying another one is impossible since I live in a very remore place and downloading the game is also out of the question since we have no net at my place (I'm staying right now at  mu aunts place). So what I'm looking for is a fix for this problem within the computer. If there are small files needed to be downloaded and installed I can do that to. Thankyou for all your help! =)

P.S.

By the way, the random stuff that appears when the game is loading (i.e. Reticulating Splines) does not show as well.

Well, first thing is, to double check, is the SimCityLocale.dat located in ...\Program Files\SimCity 4 Deluxe\English ?

If its there, then it seems you have forgotten to move the related registry keys to the new computer. The game partially decides what language/driving side/text to use via the registry, if the entries are absent then the game has no idea what text to load.

This is where it is located: \Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\UKEnglsh

its 'UKEnglsh'

is it supposed to be 'UKEnglish' with an 'i'?

or is it just supposed to be in 'English'? Becuase I cant find English.

And can you please explain in simple terms how I can move the related registry keys to the new computer? Thank you very much for helping me! I'm beggining to see some hope. =)

UKEnglsh is normal, that's the proper spelling for British English keys.

Open Run... and type in Regedit. Hit enter.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis. Right click on that folder. Select Export.

Save it to a USB drive or something so you can transfer it to the new computer.

Open your USB drive on the new computer and doubleclick on the .reg (Registration File) file, it should then be automatically added into your registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis.

Edit:

I was able to successfully put the reg file to my usb. But one thing I forgot to mention is that my game is just the two folders Maxis(containing the game) and the Sim City 4 (the one which contains the regions and stuff) pasted on the My Documents folder becuase I cant seem to put anything on the C drive because I dont have admin rights on the computer (my father does and he doesnt plan on giving it to em as well =p).

The game runs though, my problem is just that the text wont show up on it in which you sir gave the solution. But given this situation, do you still think it will work? I just want to make sure before I go back home because I dont have net access there. Thank you so much! =)

Hi I tried what you suggested and so far I was able to follow it. but when I double click the reg file to add it to my registry, the rror message: "Cannot import C:\Documents and Settings...\Reg File.reg: Error accessing the registry" appears.

What did I do wrong? May I know what to do next? Thank you so much! =)

Are you on an account with administrator privileges?

No. I'm just sharing the computer with my father. Hes the admin and the privileges on my account is somehow limited. Does it have something to do with it? Does it have a work around sir? Because my father is strict and I know for sure he will not grant me privileges. I was okay with that since all of my games and files are working properly except this, so if there is a work around I highly appreciate it. It doesnt matter how technical it gets, I will study how to do it for me to be able to play my most beloved game of all time. =)

Unfortunately, you need admin privileges to do anything with the registry, and unless you can convince your dad otherwise, you're stuck (since you need an administrator account to give an account administrative privileges).

So maybe the next time he forgets to log off, or if you somehow guess his password... or just ask nicely, you never know, he might just say yes. Explain what you're trying to do with him though.
