That has to be one of the things I least look forward to when visiting the folks!  My dad is so proud of the 2lb "Folgers Gourmet Supreme Dark Roast" he picks up at Walmart for $10.  That lasts him a pretty long time, considering he waters it down quite a bit.  The best part of waking up has nothing to do with crappy, burnt, stale, and extremely over-extracted (and  thus very bitter) coffee...  47.gifquote>

Oh no no no. 28.gif The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup! 3.gif

But seriously, my parents don't drink Folgers. Instead they buy the store bought stuff. My dad likes to pile ice cubes and sugar in his. Hmm... it may taste better with it. Considering the sugar probably sweetens it.

However, I do take a cup of tea in the afternoons.  I like tea almost as much as I like coffee, so I guess I am a child of my generation, and the end of the War to End All Wars. quote>

I love iced tea, but I rarely get to drink it unless the whole family is over. As for simply just us 4 sitting around gulping it down, my mom doesn't buy any.

I like my iced tea with some sugar or sweetener. It does taste good without it though.

Espresso is coffee made with an espresso maker and coffee (as I use the term) is any other method of cooking coffee (drip, percolator, boiling, mixing powder with hot water).

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Yes, espresso is extracted with live steam.  This means that you are way above the ideal extraction temperature for coffee that is properly used in good coffee infusers.  The proper temperature is 187°F, below this you get bath water, and above this the result is usually bitter.  The only way to do this is with a thermocouple controlled drip.  Percolation is for laboratory procedures.  Silex extractors boil the water, so that is also no good.

I have no feeling for what happens when you use live steam to extract your grounds.  Perhaps at that temperature (above 212°F) there is a different reaction/extraction.  I have always liked espresso, but the extraction process needs a machine I don't have.

I worked in a Tim Horton's for a couple of days a while back, and they are very particular about the extraction, and never keep a pot on the warmer more than 20 minutes after it is extracted.  We threw out a lot of coffee.  They use a special blend and roast, but I have no idea what it is.  Timmy's coffee is always good.  It is one of the few commercial coffees I can drink black.
