passenger stations = freight train killers?

I have an industrial area in a city with factories using freight trains to export their products. Later, I built a passenger station near the city exit on the same railway line. Since the station has been built, the railway is no more used by freight trains. If I remove it again, the freight traffic returns.

Is the reason bad transit-switching on the most custom passenger stations?

If you read the readmes or development threads on many of the passenger train stations, you will find that most were made specifically that way. A lot of people were using the train system as an LRT system before the GLR mod came around. And all that was required to design an LRT system was to make the passenger stations block freight traffic.

Well, yes and no. 2.gif I remember those times, and as you said, a lot of people wanted to create a light rail system, but there were also numerous requests to add the freight train properties. I think some of the lot builders left them out on purpose indeed, whereas others simply were not aware of this issue. The best thing would be to provide both versions, along with some hints in the (hopefully included) readme file.

For RR stations placed next to the track (like the standard one), I think there must not be any problem.

RR stations placed ON THE TRACK though are transit-enabled lots and they MUST be transit-enabled for both passenger AND freight rail for all the kinds of trains to pass through.

The same thing just happened to me.  I haven't had freight trains for a couple of weeks and last night I decided to create two seperate train systems out of the one I originally build.  As soon as I did my freight trains came back.  You live and learn.  I won't make that mistake again.  I have too many new ones to make.10.gif

I suspect that many people take the rail station values from the Grand Rail Station that comes with Rush Hour.  This station will not let freight trains through.

Since I seem to be posting TransitSwitchProperties today I will include some here.   Adding the following values to the TransitSwitchPoint property should permit freight rail traffic:

0x81,0x#0,0x05,0x05,0x82,0x#0,0x05,0x05

Where # is for the direction that the tracks cross the lot:  A for East-West, 5 for North-South

Got it.  Now do you have a link to a tutorial that tells us how to use it? Thanks.

If you can wait for one or two more days, you can do that with the new SC4Tool version which features a visual editor for transit enabling and transit switch properties - just select the desired transport type and the directions in a dialogue window, save the lot and you are done. 1.gif
