Donetsk is home to the largest coal mines in Ukraine.
The city also has many other factories such as, coking plants, iron and steel mills, machinery works, and chemical plants. It is the largest industrial center of the Donets Basin. Also most of the  Yanukovych  supporters in the recent Ukranian election come from Donetsk.
