Running under wine and UBUNTU, I have to have the disk mounted.  The game finds it fine, then.

In your operating system, for which you have undoubtedly coughed up a staggering amound of change, there must be a facility to mount your disk or make it known to the operating system.  I suspect your problem is that SC4 doesn't find your disk in the O/S's inventory of devices.

UBUNTU is an operating system based on Debian which is based on Linux.  It is run by the GNU group.

wine is a kernel add-on program that attaches itself directly to the Linux kernel and runs Windows executables under whatever operating system you are running.  Works on Mac O/S X too.

This is a free operating system.  You can download the ISO, burn it on a disk and try it without installing.  It has been called Linux for people.  I've been using it for about two years now since I gave up on Microshaft.  This O/S works on any box I have seen so far.

Of course.  Mods and add-ons load with the game from your hard disk.  Having the disk mounted is just a kind o fancy password to ensure that you paid for the game.
